After a two-year hiatus, Universal is beginning the casting process for the fourth Jurassic World film.
With a financial success and critical catastrophe in 2022’s Jurassic World: Dominion, it seems Universal is ready to start anew in the next Jurassic trilogy as they have begun casting six leads, a villain and more for the 2025 untitled Jurassic World 4 film according to a new report.
It seems impossible that people have yet to hear of Jurassic World and its predecessor Jurassic Park. The six films that chronicle the tales (and fallout) of a theme park whose main attractions are living breathing dinosaurs.
The franchise which started in 1993 with the adaptation of Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park, went on to spawn five (now six) sequels and numerous spin-offs, and is an equivocal success.
Now, Gareth Edward’s Jurassic World 4 is reportedly looking to cast the roles of six new leads and some additional roles. The Jurassic franchise is no stranger to having many leads, with the initial film (directed by Steven Spielberg) itself having three leads, and Jurassic World having four.
Six isn’t an unknown number for the brand either, with the last film, Jurassic World: Dominion, starring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Laura Dern, Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum and DeWanda Wise. None of which will be returning according to a report from the newsletter TheInSneider.
However, according to a new scoop from industry insider Daniel Richtman, Dev Patel (Monkey Man) is in talks to play one of the three adult leads in the film. Daniel also corroborated The InSneider’s report of Scarlett Johansson starring in the film.
As for other cast members, as stated by Daniel Richtman, the third adult lead is expected to be a male and offers have been sent out to Glen Powell (Anyone But You), Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth who all declined. He states that Nicholas Hoult, who is currently filming Superman, has the current offer for that particular role but may turn it down due to his commitment to James Gunn’s initial DCU film.
As for the other three leads of the film, they are expected to be teenagers with two of the aforementioned being sisters and the third being a boyfriend to one of the sisters. This makes sense due to both the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World trilogies heavily revolving around children.
Not much is known about the villain role, but it can be speculated that it may be someone such as the antagonist of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Eli Mills, who was looking to capitalize on the high value of exotic beasts such as dinosaurs and their aquatic counterparts.
Jurassic World 4 is set to be directed by Gareth Edwards, who himself is coming off financial failure The Creator and is evidently looking to turn that bad press around. The film will be written by original franchise screenwriter David Koepp and is aiming to begin production in late July 2024 to make its July 2025 release date.
