Earlier this year Benny Safdie announced that he would be splitting up with his brother, Josh Safdie, on good terms and that each will direct films on their own. Benny Safdie went on to direct Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the Mark Kerr biopic The Smashing Machine which wrapped filming last month. Josh Safdie directed the Adam Sandler: Love You comedy special for Netflix and is now moving on to Marty Supreme.

Additionally, Marty Supreme will star Gwyneth Paltrow, who’s having her first major film role since 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, Tyler, the Creator in his narrative feature film debut, and Odessa A’zion who starred in the latest Hellraiser film.

As of this week, filming is expected to begin on Marty Supreme in New York City at 25th St. and 6th Ave. The news was reported by OLV, who have a proven track record with filming locations and dates, as they mention production beginning today. We’ve also seen Chalamet don a new look at a Dune: Part Two screening and Q&A in NYC recently, which seems to feature him with much shorter hair and slight facial hair.

It’s unknown when the film is set to release, but it’s positive to remark that with production beginning in September 2024, the film could be aiming for a mid to late 2025 release, specifically the latter due to the awards season. The same applies to Benny’s The Smashing Machine which is definitely releasing next year as well.
