One of DC Studios’ worst-kept secrets since its inception has just been announced with Jason Momoa officially joining the DCU Chapter One: Gods & Monsters for Craig Gillespie’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. He will be playing villain Lobo, a character that he’s been wanting to play for years

In the comics, Lobo is a Czarnian intergalactic bounty hunter, who first made his debut in 1983. He has since become one of the most popular intergalactic villains in DC’s roster, often serving as a foe to Superman, Guy Gardner, Supergirl and many other members of the Justice League crew.

Now it has been confirmed that the character will make a cinematic debut in the 2026 film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which will officially be the second film in the DC Universe by the time it premieres, following James Gunn’s 2025 film Superman. Momoa revealed his involvement via Instagram on his @prideofgypsies account stating “”So Lobo was… I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but he was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo, because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role,” he said. “I mean, listen. If they call and ask me to play him, it’s a f*ck yeah. I haven’t received that call, so I don’t want to put any fake news out there, but if they ever call me and ask me to play, or ask me to audition, I’m there.” Find the post below:

This isn’t the first role Jason Momoa has had with DC, collaborating with Zack Snyder and James Wan for Aquaman and its 2023 sequel Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom, where he played a less traditional and more hardened version of the comic character. Momoa certainly is a better fit for Lobo visually than Aquaman, but it remains to be seen if his character and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be as well received as 2018’s Aquaman

He joins Peter Safran as one of two people to jump ship from the production of Aquaman at DC Films to DC Studios. Safran produced the two Aquaman films and has since been hired as co-head of the new regime, DC Studios, alongside creative partner James Gunn. Speaking of which, James Gunn also confirmed the casting in his own announcement, an Instagram story stating:

“Welcome to the #DCU, Jason Momoa. @prideofgypsies #Lobo #Supergirl”

The film might not be Momoa’s only Warner Bros. film of that year either, with many fans speculating whether or not he will return as Duncan Idaho in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Messiah, which begins production in late 2025

Jason Momoa’s Lobo joins Milly Alcock as Supergirl, Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, and Eve Ridley as Ruthye Mary Knolle. The film is directed by Craig Gillespie and is expected to enter production starting next month, January 2025.
