One of the first members of the DCU will also be the first to make the transition from animation to live-action with the second season of Peacemaker.
Frank Grillo, 58, is best known for his roles in the MCU as Brock Rumlow/Crossbones and Leo Barnes in The Purge franchise. The actor was cast in the DCU over a year ago on April 12 as Rick Flag Sr., the father of Joel Kinnaman’s The Suicide Squad character.
Now, in a new post on Instagram, James Gunn has announced that the Boss Level star will reprise his Creature Commandos character for the second season of the hit Max series Peacemaker.

In the above Instagram post, Gunn hints that John Cena’s Christopher Smith and Flag Sr. have unfinished business during the second season. This is obviously a reference to the fact that during The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker was tasked with destroying evidence of Project Starfish, and Flag Jr. got in the way of that.
With a memorable mantra, best stated in The Suicide Squad, “I cherish peace with all my heart. I don’t care how many men, women, and children I need to kill to get it.” it is obvious why Peacemaker killed the character. However, in the first season of Peacemaker, the character shows genuine remorse towards the murder of Flag and tries to better himself as a person.
Now that Flag Sr. is involved in the show’s second season, we will definitely be seeing some conflict between the pacifist vigilante and the Creature Commando. And although we don’t know any plot details besides this, it can be inferred that the ending of the first season will be paid off too, in which the Peacemaker team exposed the crimes of Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller.
Double Peace and Double Grillo
Up next for Grillo are the films Lights Out, King of Killers, Hard Matter, Hounds of War, and Year 2. In terms of television, he has the first DCU series, Creature Commandos, in which he costars alongside David Harbour, Sean Gunn, Maria Bakalova, Indira Varma, Zoe Chao and Alan Tudyk. He is currently filming Peacemaker, which is currently in production at DC Studios.
The Peacemaker series follows Christopher Smith, a vigilante with skewed morals as he leads a team consisting of government operatives as they complete various black ops missions. The second series stars John Cena as the titular character, Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, Steve Agee as John Economos, Freddie Stroma as Peacemaker, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., and Dee Bradley Baker as the voice of Eagly.
