First ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Teaser Trailer: Serving Peace Once More
The first teaser trailer for Peacemaker Season 2 has just dropped and we now know how the series will fit into the wider DCU.
Peacemaker Season 2 was first confirmed in February 2022, a day before the season one finale with James Gunn set to both write and direct the eight-episode season. Filming was initially set for 2023 but plans shifted once James Gunn became the co-CEO of DC Studios (alongside Peter Safran). Once the scheduling issues were ironed out, the series began filming in April 2024 simultaneously with Gunn’s other project, Superman, at the Trilith Studios in Atlanta, Georgia. Filming would countinue from June and conclude in November of that year.
Not much is known about the plot of Peacemaker Season 2, we know that the series is in an odd position having Season 1 originally set in the former DC Extended Universe and now following up on that with Season 2 in the brand new DCU. There were some teases towards the new season such as the casting of Sol Rodríguez as Sasha Bordeaux and Tim Meadows (Mean Girls, Grown Ups) as Langston Fleury. The introduction of ARGUS into the series and what’s possibly a major plot point, Rick Flag Sr (Frank Grillo) taking revenge on Christopher Smith (John Cena) after the death of his son, Rick Flag Jr (Joel Kinnaman). While Christopher Smith / Peacemaker wasn’t name-dropped in Creature Commandos, the death of Rick Flag Jr was briefly touched upon canonising the events of The Suicide Squad.
Today, the teaser trailer for the upcoming season of Peacemaker has just been released, you can view it below.
Additionally, we had our first poster for the series released yesterday which depicts Christopher Smith / Peacemaker (John Cena) and his pet eagle, Eagly touching foreheads.
What Happens In The Peacemaker Season 2 Teaser Trailer?
The trailer opens with Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brooks) driving Christopher Smith /Peacemaker (John Cena) to an interview held by the Justice Gang. Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn), Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillon) and Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced) are present, Peacemaker begins to list his skills while the trio insult him thinking the Mic is off.
We see snippets of the Season 1 cast including Adrian Chase / Vigilante (Freddie Stroma), John Economos (Steve Agee) and a bar fight with Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland). A psychiatrist declares that Emilia suffers from a form of toxic masculinity, she’s shocked and we cut to a scene of her punching a car wheel.
It’s revealed that Rick Flag Sr is the director of ARGUS and he’s had his eyes on Peacemaker. Leota confirms that Rick Flag is aware of how his son died. We see Rick walking down the hallway and telling someone to bring him Peacemaker. We cut to a group of soldiers readying their weapons. We cut to a scene of Peacemaker escaping his home followed by more fight scenes with Emilia.
Peacemaker and the rest of the 11th Street Kids share a beer, we see a brief shot of Eagly flying in. In between a few action scenes we’re introduced to the mysterious character that James Gunn teased previously during filming, he appears to be played by Michael Rooker. We get some shots of Emilia, Vigilante, Leota and Christopher in the Pocket Dimension. After the title card, we see another glimpse of Christopher in the pocket dimension, he goes through a door and is threatened by another Peacemaker.
The official synopsis reads as follows:
The new season follows Christopher “Chris” Smith, aka Peacemaker, the vigilante Super Hero as he struggles to reconcile his past with his newfound sense of purpose while continuing to kick righteous evil-doer butt in his misguided quest for peace at any cost
Peacemaker Season 2 is created by James Gunn and stars John Cena as Christopher Smith / Peacemaker, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr and more. The series premieres on Max on August 21st.
