‘Final Destination: Bloodlines’ First Details Revealed (Exclusive)
We can exclusively share the first details on Final Destination: Bloodlines and when to expect the first look at footage for the movie.
After a long wait and months of fan speculation, we can officially reveal the first outline of the story for the movie, which reveals a faithful and intense plot that fits nicely alongside the rest of the franchise:
“In the 1960s, a grandmother predicts the collapse of a building and saves a group of people from death. Decades later, her granddaughter also begins to have visions of the death of her family members and later begins to realise that there is a sequence.”
This shift in focus breathes new life into the Final Destination franchise, which, while always creative with its set pieces, has stuck to a familiar formula across its instalments. Now, with a multi-generational storyline, the franchise can explore fate on a much larger scale, making the horror feel even more inevitable. It also allows for an eerie, atmospheric horror style—contrasting the past and present, exploring the consequences of past survival, and delving into how premonitions and near-misses impact an entire family across decades.
This thereby brings up interesting questions about how generations are affected by the curse and if death takes more of an interest in families and hangs around for multiple years. These are relationships and concepts not yet tackled in these movies, which is why it’s fascinating that after five movies, they can still find ways to bring new life to the narratives and allow them to be viewed from new perspectives.
Whilst not confirmed, it is believed that Brec Bassinger is playing the lead role, the granddaughter. The cast also includes Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Max Lloyd-Jones, Teo Briones, Rya Kihlstedt, and Tony Todd returning as William Bludworth. With the iconic Bludworth back, it’s very likely that some new concepts will be introduced in the movie that he needs to explain. It will be one of Todd’s final on-screen roles after his untimely passing in 2024.
This also explains the movie’s title: Bloodlines. The idea of a legacy and curse that continues across generations presents an opportunity for a dual storyline or flashbacks and allows for a larger ensemble that can use dual narratives to make reveals or plot twists more interesting and create more direct differences between the two years, which allows for commentary to be made on changes through time, or the lack of.
In addition, we can officially confirm that a trailer is finished and set to be released very soon.
Beyond its new narrative potential and an exciting young cast breathing fresh life into the franchise, it’s exciting to have Final Destination return. The franchise has always been a staple of inventive, anxiety-inducing horror and is known for its elaborate death sequences and clever tension-building. With modern horror evolving in multiple ways, including a more exciting path for traditional horror and a branch of more introspective and disturbing horror, this installment has the opportunity to elevate its scares with a more psychological and lore-driven approach. As well as this, though, it’s nice to have a franchise back that prides itself on the gory and confronting roots of horror – just focused on being scary and entertaining. By embracing generational horror, Final Destination can offer a terrifying meditation on fate, legacy, destiny, and whether survival is ever truly possible.
Not only that, with the film featuring an older character and potentially having scenes set in the past, it’s very possible that we could see characters from other movies in the franchise return in this film as well, though this has not been confirmed or hinted at.
Final Destination: Bloodlines is directed by Adam B. Stein and Zach Lipovsky and stars Brec Bassinger, Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Tony Todd, Teo Briones, Rya Kihlstedt, Anna Lore, and Richard Harmon. Craig Perry, Sheila Hanahan Taylor, and Jon Watts are producing.
