‘Edge of Tomorrow 2’ Back In Active Development At Warner Bros
Edge of Tomorrow is close to getting a sequel, nearly twelve years since the release of the first film, making a gap that rivals Avatar.
The highly anticipated sequel to the cult classic action sci-fi film Edge of Tomorrow 2 is back in development at Warner Bros. Pictures, per a new report.
Insider Daniel Richtman shared on his Patreon today that Edge of Tomorrow 2 is reportedly in the works. This isn’t exactly news, with the filmmakers and others involved with the original film expressing interest in returning for a follow-up to the legendary 2014 film.
Richtman, who goes by the online moniker DanielRPK, also revealed that production on the sequel can begin as soon as Fall 2026, implying that the film is further along in production than most would expect.
Star Tom Cruise was recently spotted in Hungary filming a new project (whether that be a major motion picture, a commercial, or something else) involving motorcycles, and was recently attached to the third Top Gun film, which is in development at Paramount.

There were also rumours of a ninth Mission: Impossible film, also at Paramount, and with Warner Bros. anticipated to be acquired by Paramount later this year, it seems Tom Cruise will continue being a staple for Paramount Pictures with Top Gun, Mission: Impossible, Edge of Tomorrow, Days of Thunder, and more, becoming major franchises led by the star for the studio.
Edge of Tomorrow told the story of a time loop as soldiers fight an alien invasion, with Tom Cruise playing the role of Major William Cage, who, alongside Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt), is the only person who can save humanity from the impending invasion. The film is an adaptation of All You Need Is Kill, which was just readapted as an animated film showing that demand for this story is still there.
The script for the sequel is already complete, as Emily Blunt revealed in a 2023 interview, meaning that the film just needs to enter the pre-production phase for it to truly be a go.

Edge of Tomorrow starred Tom Cruise as Major William Cage, Emily Blunt as Sergeant Rita Vrataski, Bill Paxton as Master Sergeant Farell, and Brendan Gleeson as General Brigham. The film was released in theatres in June of 2014, and was considered a box office disappointment.
