Following heavy awards attention with her film debut, Past Lives, director-writer Celine Song has just finished shooting her sophomore feature, Materialists.
After nearing the Oscar win last year with Past Lives, to say people are simply excited about Celine Song’s next film would be an understatement. Set photos have already leaked online after the film began principal photography in late April of this year, taking fans by storm.
The film follows a matchmaker (Dakota Johnson), an old flame, and a businessman caught in a love triangle. Although we don’t know who plays who in terms of the male leads, Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal will also star in the film.
In a new post from Game of Thrones alum Pascal, we have learned that Materialists has wrapped its principal photography. In the post, we see a shot of New York City, Johnson giving Pascal a quick smooch, with Song and Evans posing at a table. A few behind-the-scenes looks show some of the vibes and chemistry behind the set.
It should be a good change of pace for Johnson, who is coming off a tremendous financial and creative failure with Sony Picture’s Madame Web. As for Evans, he recently starred alongside Emily Blunt in Netflix’s Pain Hustlers, whereas Pascal enjoyed success with The Last Of Us last year and has just been cast as Reed Richards in the MCU Fantastic Four film.
Materialists is written and directed by Celine Song, and stars Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, Pedro Pascal, Zoë Winters, Dasha Nekrasova, Louisa Jacobson, and Marin Ireland. The film is produced by A24 and currently has no release date.
