‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Filming Has Begun
Today, as confirmed by Avengers: Doomsday directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, filming has begun on the upcoming blockbuster.
We first learnt of Avengers: Doomsday (formerly Avengers: Kang Dynasty or Avengers 5) during San Diego Comic-Con, 2024. Kevin Feige announced on stage that the Russo brothers will direct this upcoming film and its sequel Avengers: Secret Wars. Both scripts were also confirmed to be written by Stephen McFeely. There is no Avengers: Doomsday without its star, Doctor Doom, and as such, the casting was done in an exciting way where Doombots gathered on stage alongside their leader, who unmasked himself as Robert Downey Jr.
Today, on Instagram, the Russo brothers posted their first behind-the-scenes photo from the set of Avengers: Doomsday. The image contains a chair with the name Victor Von Doom, a reference to the “Avengers: Doomsday | Cast Announce” or “Chair livestream” which premiered a little over a month ago.
What Is Doomsday About?
While plot details are scarce at the moment, it’s possible that this film will serve as an origin story for this variant of Doctor Doom, one whose face will be very familiar to the characters. Looking at the current casting, we can assume that plot points from Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be followed on. Additionally, with many cast members being related to the Fox X-Men films, we could potentially follow Monica’s journey as she returns home to 616 after the events of The Marvels.
For example, the ending of Captain America: Brave New World saw Sam Wilson telling Thaddeus Ross that he plans to reform the Avengers. The post-credit scene shows an exchange between Sam and Samuel Sterns/The Leader. Samuel teases an upcoming “war between worlds,” likely relating to the Multiversal War, which was teased in Season One of Loki.
Who’s In The Avengers: Doomsday Cast?
The “Avengers: Doomsday | Cast Announce” fondly known by fans as the “Chair livestream” gave us 27 cast members who will more likely reprise their iconic roles. Additionally, Kevin Feige has gone on to state that this is only the beginning and more cast members will be confirmed as we get closer to the film’s release.
