With 2024 coming to an end, it’s time to get excited for the future, especially for the future of film. With this year being affected by the SAG-AFTRA strikes, it’s no stretch to say that the next one will be much more packed in terms of both film quality and quantity.
Release dates for new films are being announced almost every single day at this point, with each single major studio not wasting any second talking about their upcoming films. In this list, we will be showcasing all the upcoming films set to release in 2025 and beyond. Even though 2025 will easily be the biggest segment in this full list, we’re keen on the fact that the following years will be as big too, as we’ve already heard about some films releasing in 2026, such as Avengers: Doomsday, Christopher Nolan’s next film, Jordan Peele’s next film, and more.
It’s also very important not to forget animated features, as we will be getting movies like Dog Man, The Bad Guys 2, an animated adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat, and more in the following years. A movie like Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is surely on everyone’s waiting lists but unfortunately it doesn’t seem like a 2025 release at all, and that’s what we will be discussing in this list. We will be using US release dates for this list, as release dates differ from country to country.
There will also be a handful of popular filmmakers and actors who will be returning with big projects in the following years, as 2025 is already packed with movies made by auteurs like Bong Joon-ho, Paul Thomas Anderson, Yorgos Lanthimos and more. We’ve also got movies like Marty Supreme, Caught Stealing, Eddington and more, which will be starring upcoming big stars like Timothée Chalamet, Austin Butler, Pedro Pascal and Emma Stone.

The confirmed 2025 film release dates end with James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash which releases on December 19th. Surprisingly, the year has a lot more surprises to deliver though, as a lot of films are yet to receive release dates, hopefully we will get to know these in due time.
Considering production dates, we have also compiled a list of other movies to expect in 2025 that are currently undated.
In addition, there are some special cases though, for example, we know that Magazine Dreams will be releasing in the first quarter of 2025, but we don’t know which date exactly. Another good example is Damien Chazelle’s next film, which was confirmed by Paramount that it would be released in 2025, but with 2024 almost finished and the filmmaker saying he’s hesitant between deciding which project to make out of two in his mind, it feels like it’s impossible for it to have a 2025 release date. Reliable leaker ViewerAnon has also shared that it’s likely Saw XI will not make its 2025 release date.

Most of these films will likely be released next year as filming has already wrapped on most, and with some about to begin production very soon such as Alejandro González Iñárritu’s next film starring Tom Cruise, which is planning to begin production as early as November.
Some of these films may also be aiming for release at film festivals such as Terrence Malick’s The Way of the Wind. The biblical epic about the life of Jesus Christ could be aiming for a 2025 Cannes Film Festival premiere, as the producer of the film had told Variety that the film was nearing an end in August 2023, even though the film did not have a premiere this year at Cannes. The film has been in the editing stage for five years with over 3000 hours of footage shot.
It seems too early for comparisons but I personally think people will begin comparing 2025 to 2019, with how many projects there were, whether it was studio films or auteur-driven projects. 2019 in film had movies like Parasite, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood…, Avengers: Endgame, The Irishman, Joker, Portrait of a Lady in Fire and more. For 2025 we will have big films such as Superman, Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, The Smashing Machine, The Running Man, and more. It’s probable that 2025’s award season will end up a battle between multiple big shot films due to the massive volume of cinema releasing.
Furthermore, 2026 is also already sounding promising with the film announcements we’ve already had, such as Steven Spielberg’s new UFO film The Dish or Christopher Nolan’s next film. Check out our lists below of all 2026 and beyond release dates, untitled studio films and upcoming films with no release dates.

So the next part will be a bonus for those who care about auteurs and major directors who will be returning in the following years, with the films listed above.
