Dave Franco Reveals He is Returning for ‘The Studio’ Season 2

The Studio Season 2 is still a few months away but we have some news regarding a major guest star as Dave Franco says he will return for the sophmore season.

During a podcast appearance on the Josh Horowitz show, Dave Franco revelead that he would return on Season 2. Dave revealed it himself and said he couldn’t reveal anything else other than “it’s very fun”. Josh Horowitz says he’s heard some names of the guest stars and it will blow people’s minds.

Dave Franco goes on to say “These guys are geniuses. They set such a high bar on season 1 and they’re going so ambitious on season 2 and it’s working so well we with season 2. I’m so excited for people to see what they’ve been up to”.

Quite a few guest stars have been caught filming during the second season, but Dave wasn’t one of them, which makes this a surprising reveal and the first guest star to be confirmed to return. Dave was in 3 episodes of the first season.

The Studio was a massive success for Apple TV not just critically but also in terms of awards season. It was especially fruitful in terms of guest stars during the 2025 Primetime Emmy’s. In the “Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series” category, The Studio was nominated for 4 out of the 6 slots with Ron Howard, Martin Scorsese, Anthony Mackie, and Dave Franco all getting nominated for playing themselves. The “Guest Actress” category also featured a nomination for Zoe Kravitz.

This was Dave Franco’s first Primetime Emmy acting nomination which he says came as a shock to him and had no expectations of getting nominated. He says he didn’t even know he was eligible or when the Emmy’s would even be announced until his publicist told him that he got the nomination.

The Studio went through a massive loss as Catherine O’Hara sadly passed away soon after productio began for the second season, which caused creators Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg to tweak some things. Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen said of the challenge:

Evan Goldberg: “It has been an unbelievable challenge. Obviously emotionally, dealing with the loss, but also when it comes to the show itself. We wrote it for her to be there. We had it all set and the shock waves permeate throughout the entire new season. It’s been difficult. You worded it better than we could — she was the anchor and now the anchor is gone.”

Seth Rogen: “If anything, we’re acknowledging the idea that we are a little anchorless. But, honestly, that is a part of life and what we all experience. And so while we try to not dwell too much on heavy themes in this show, they will be there in this second season. We are not ignoring it.”

Ike Barinholtz revealed in an interview that Season 2 of The Studio will begin airing in March 2027, two years after the first season premiered. The first season featured 10 episodes, but it’s unclear if it will be the same for Season 2.
