‘Clayface’ Teaser Trailer: DC Goes Horror
The first teaser for DC’s next feature film tells the horrific origin of the Batman villain, ‘Clayface’.
Clayface follows the story of actor Matt Hagen (Tom Rhys Harries) who after meeting with a terrible accident takes some extreme measures to save his career.
Mike Flanagan has previously expressed his interest in working on a Clayface film for the DCEU but it wasn’t until March 2023 when he pitched the idea to DC Studios. Fast forward over a year later to December 2024 and the film was put into development as part of the newly formed DCU with Flanagan involved in the project.
Due to scheduling issues, Mike Flanagan was unable to direct the film and as thus James Watkins was brought on to direct in February 2025, with Falangan staying on as a writer. Hossein Amini did some rewrites on the script in May and the month after, Tom Rhys Harries was cast as the titular character. Filming for Clayface ran from August – November 2025 taking place throughout Liverpool and on soundstages at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in England.
The film also had a presence at CinemaCon last week where attendees were given a first look at the logo and some footage. Today, approximately a week after that initial reveal, we have the teaser trailer for Clayface which you can view below:
What Happens In The Clayface Teaser Trailer?
The main image we open up with in the teaser is a shot of Matt Hagan (Tom Rhys Harries) in a hospital bed wrapped in bandages. Over the course of the trailer the camera is simply pushing in slowly on his face. Intercut during this teaser are images from various points in the movie. We see Matt on a Hollywood red carpet with a pristine face.
Another shot shows him getting his face sliced open by a goon. “Do You Realize?” by The Flaming Lips plays over the footage as we see shots of an injection and various pieces of laboratory equipment. A puddle of clay is vibrating in a dish and we see Matt’s face begin to melt. In the shadows on the walls in the alleys of Gotham a raised hand slowly morphs into a mace shape. The teaser ends with Matt in a bathtub as he runs his hand down his face, turning it blank.

Clayface is directed by James Watkins and stars Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen / Clayface, Naomi Ackie, Max Minghella and more. The film hits theatres on October 23rd, 2026.
