‘Digger’ Trailer Could Be Releasing Next Week Ahead of ‘Michael’
Alejandro González Iñárritu’s newest satirical black comedy, starring Tom Cruise, might be having its first full trailer releasing very soon.
Having begun production on the 7th of November back in 2024 and wrapping six months later, director Alejandro González Iñárritu’s newest project was definitely something to keep an eye out for not just because of it’s premise but also because it stars Tom Cruise, who hadn’t starred in a non-action film since Rock of Ages, which was released back in 2012.
Meanwhile, the premise for Digger is the following:
The most powerful man in the world embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s saviour before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.
One could also say that this is Cruise’s biggest shot at being nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award and possibly even securing it, as he stars as Digger Rockwell, who was seen in the title announcement wearing a full set of prosthetics, figuratively resembling one of his past characters, which was Les Grossman in Tropic Thunder. It’s also important to note that Iñárritu does often get his actors to earn nominations and even wins at the Academy Awards, for example, Michael Keaton & Emma Stone were nominated for Birdman, Leonardo DiCaprio won an Oscar for The Revenant.

When Is The Digger Trailer Dropping?
As of eight hours ago, the official Digger account was created on Twitter/X and then posted about the poster and the title announcement reveal, which were released online back on the 18th of December last year, which makes one think that they’re starting to build up publicity again for the film, considering that we might be getting our hands on the first trailer very soon. Another thing to be noted is also that the MJ biopic, Michael, is releasing in theaters on April 24th, so it would be a smart marketing move to have the Digger trailer play before a film that is guaranteed to sell many tickets.
The film itself releases in theaters on October 2nd this year, so now is obviously the perfect time to drop the first trailer which is around six months before the film’s premiere, especially when it’s also an IMAX blockbuster. Who knows if it could also possibly premiere at the Venice Film Festival this year or not? Considering the fact that Iñárritu had his last film, Bardo, premiered at the 79th Venice International Film Festival.
This comedy of catastrophic proportions has a star-studded ensemble cast which includes Tom Cruise, Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Riz Ahmed, Jesse Plemons, Michael Stuhlbarg, Sophie Wilde and Emma D’Arcy.
