‘Dune: Part Three’ 70mm IMAX Tickets Sell Out, Despite Being Sold Nine Months Early
‘Dune’ is shaping up to be one of the biggest modern day franchises, with tickets selling out for first weekend screenings 9 months in advance. Read about the ‘Dune: Part Three’ 70mm IMAX tickets.
Dune: Part Three is testing the waters with its cinematic desert power, following in the footsteps of Christopher Nolan and releasing the tickets for first weekend 70mm IMAX showings across 30 locations worldwide, with nearly all of them selling out immediately. This tactic worked wonders for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, so given the film’s grand scale, the move was only natural.

Warner Bros. and Legendary announced the sale on April 6th, which saw an influx of fans eagerly buying (or even scalping) tickets for the event film in 70mm film format on IMAX screens. The announcement reads as follows: “Be the first to get tickets to experience Dune: Part Three in IMAX 70mm. Tickets on sale at 9am PT. Dune: Part Three only in theaters and IMAX December 18. #DuneMovie #FilmedforIMAX”
Tickets were sold alongside exclusive collectible limited-edition filmstrips, making these tickets incredibly sought after. At BFI IMAX, the tickets sold out completely within minutes of them going on sale, whilst at IMAX Melbourne, ticket cues were over 25 minutes long at times, selling out well before traffic could catch up.
The news is not only a testament to the growing popularity of the Dune franchise but also to the star power of Timothée Chalamet, who, following his second consecutive Oscar nomination for Marty Supreme, is clearly at the forefront of the new age of Hollywood cinema.

Dune: Part Three hails from Denis Villeneuve and stars Chalamet, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Florence Pugh, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem, Anya Taylor-Joy, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, and more. The film releases in theatres on December 18th, 2026.
