Five Nights At Freddy’s is one of the most famous examples of indie horror gaming out there, first breaking out back in 2014. Now, eleven years later, the adaptation of Scott Cawthon’s second game, Five Nights At Freddy’s 2, has finally arrived in theatres. Read our Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 ending explained article.

The film picks up a few years after the first film (also directed by Emma Tammi) where we see Mike Schmidt (Josh Hutcherson) looking after his younger sister Abby (Piper Rubio) who misses her animatronic friends from the previous film. Meanwhile, Vanessa Shelly (Elizabeth Lail) struggles to come to terms with her childhood trauma, caused by the death of her friend at the hands of the Marionette, as well as her serial killer father William Afton (Matthew Lillard).

Things get dicey when a group of paranormal investigators (McKenna Grace, Teo Briones) unleash the Marionette at the original 1982 Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria location.

The third act is full of twists and turns but in short, after exorcising the Marionette from Abby with the music box, the Toy versions of the animatronics are on the loose in suburbia and corner Mike, Abby and Vanessa in Mike’s home. Revealing himself to Mike and Abby, Micheal (the security guard from the original Freddy Fazbear’s location) reveals himself to be an Afton and Vanessa’s brother. He plans to uphold to work of his late father by unleashing the toys on the general populace and killing everyone, but before he can kill the trio, the original animatronics from the newer location (in which Mike previously worked) arrive and destroy the Toys.

Whilst Michael escapes, Mike and Abby leave Vanessa by herself, not trusting anything she says after not telling them about Michael. Vanessa watches them leave and the Marionette possesses her, leaving her fate as a cliffhanger.

The post credit scene picks up a day before the demolition of the newer location, with three people salvaging materials from the location and find the stinking remains of William Afton, stuck in the Springtrap suit. They don’t realize there is a body in there but they throw a plastic sheet over him to shield the suit from the rain and as they leave the room, Afton’s soul possesses the animatronic, turning on the suit.

What Happens In The ‘Five Nights At Freddy’s 2’ Post Credit Audio Recording?

In the final roll of credits, the music of the credits finalize and a recording from Henry Emily (Skeet Ulrich) to Mike Schmidt begins playing. He explains that he is William Afton’s former business partner and co-created the animatronics and the Fazbear Pizzeria company. He says he still has access to some of the tools and that Mike needs to leave now, as the Marionette is coming for him. The recording is cut short, possibly insinuating that the Marionette, possessed by his own daughter, has come for him too.
