‘Clayface’ Begins Filming In Liverpool
The latest DC Universe film in the Chapter One: Gods & Monsters slate has begun filming.
Directed by James Watkins (Speak No Evil), Clayface is set to be the third film in the DC Universe and the first medium-budget film of the lot, with early reports suggesting the film will be made for an impressively low budget of $40M. The film is set to follow Matt Hagen (Tom Rhys Harries), an actor from Gotham City who is violently assaulted by gangsters, leaving him disfigured and his career in ruin. The story is set to bring him close to a doctor (Naomi Ackie) and a detective (Max Minghella).
Clayface has recently begun production in Liverpool, England, where they are filming nearby to a location previously used in Matt Reeves’ 2022 hit The Batman. This has led to much speculation that a Reevesverse Epic Crime Saga merge is on the way, despite the continual evidence and confirmation that the DC Universe will not incorporate that universe in any way, to respect the vision of Clayface producer Matt Reeves.
The production is currently filming at St George’s Hall and the Royal Liver Building, as well as Cardington Studios, where Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy was shot. Production design on set showcases the city’s transformation into Gotham, as well as maps giving our first official look at how Gotham City will look in the DC Universe, complete with a legend and key.

Also revealed in filming is the casting of character actor Eddie Marsan, who will reportedly be playing Hagen’s manager in the film. He previously starred as The Headmaster in Deadpool 2, and in a small role in V For Vendetta, another DC production, released back in 2005.
Other actors have also been spotted on set, but it has not been revealed or recognized who they are.
