‘Eyes of Wakanda’ Gets An Early Release Date

Fans won’t have to wait much longer to return to Wakanda with the animated series bumping its release date up.

‘Eyes of Wakanda’ Gets An Early Release Date

Eyes of Wakanda was announced back in December 2023 with footage in a sizzle reel featuring numerous projects from Marvel Animation. Todd Harris serves as showrunner and director with Ryan Coogler attached as an executive producer. This series differentiates itself from other Marvel Animation projects both in its art style and the fact that it is the first MCU Canon animated show, taking place over different points of history on the 616 Timeline.

Fans would receive a small snippet of the series in the Marvel Look Ahead video which featured footage and release dates for the entire 2025 Slate, the series would premiere on August 6th, 2025. The first episode of the series was showcased exclusively at Annecy Film Festival on June 9th, which per Entertainment Weekly:

The first episode centers on Noni (Winnie Harlow), a former member of Wakanda’s Dora Milaje and a prospective new candidate for the Hatut Zaraze, who are basically Wakanda’s MI6. Noni is “a James Bond version of a Dora who just doesn’t tow the company line,” Harris mentions.

In the year 1260 B.C., Noni is tasked with taking down a man known as the Lion (Cress Williams), a former Wakandan who took their nation’s coveted technology and transformed himself into a warlord. He has his conquering eye set on Crete in Greece, and Noni must retrieve the artifacts he stole.

We would later get a thirty-second sneak peek of Eyes of Wakanda on July 1st, featuring numerous characters and locations found in Wakanda. We also saw a Vibranium Gauntlet, it’s unclear whether this is one of the “Vibranium Artifacts” mentioned in the synopsis:

Marvel Animation’s new action-adventure series, Eyes of Wakanda, follows the adventures of brave Wakandan warriors throughout history. In this globe-trotting adventure, the heroes must carry-out dangerous missions to retrieve Vibranium artifacts from the enemies of Wakanda. They are the Hatut Zaraze and this is their story.

This sneak peek would also come with the announcement of a delay to August 27th, three weeks ahead of its initial premiere date. However, a few days before San Diego Comic Con, Showrunner Todd Harris spoke with Entertainment Weekly via Zoom and revealed that the series will arrive even sooner than expected with a new release date of August 1st. All four episodes will premiere on the same day, each with a runtime of approximately thirty minutes. We suspect that the runtimes may look like those seen on Dream Productions and LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild The Galaxy.

Harris also went on to explain his goal with creating this series, “making the world bigger,” something that films often cannot achieve due to its restrictive runtime. He goes on to explain, “It is a nation with multiple zip codes. It was mostly just expanding the backdrop of the world that Ryan was able to establish, with just a little bit more time and a few more opportunities at the watering hole. These things have been around for this long, really spreading out the mythology of Wakanda.”

Another theme of the series is the idea that “history is often written by the victors”, and Todd Harris explains in further detail:

“People pull truth out of history, and it might not necessarily be objective truth, but it’s theirs,” Harris explains. “And also, people who try to make events happen give it a personal context. The quote [from the show], ‘It’s written by people who weren’t there and didn’t have anything to do with it,’ but they’re trying to make that story mean something to them. So that’s an interesting needle to thread throughout the series. And then we have some episodes where we do that, and then we kind of back off a little bit and get a little bit more Marvel with it, and then jump back into it.”
