New ‘One Battle After Another’ Trailer Playing Before IMAX ‘Superman’ Screenings
A new trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another is now playing before IMAX showings of Superman.
The new trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another playing exclusively before James Gunn’s Superman, another Warner Bros. film, in select IMAX screenings is yet another confirmation of it being a more than a loose adaptation of Pynchon’s Vineland—set in contemporary world, it seems to be not what V. was to The Master but more than that. The trailer starting with a scene of what seems to be Bob living his post revolutionary lifestyle being hip to his daughter’s boyfriend—a scene directly lifted from Pynchon’s novel—moments before Lockjaw attacks his home, a blast from the past. With a Greenwood-ized “Ready or Not” playing throughout, the trailer sells the mood of the film in a manner that whips up hype and hope.
The 1 minute 40 seconds trailer is entirely composed of new footage: new look at Sean Penn’s Lockjaw and his sudden re-emergence haunting Ferguson family; and Benicio Del Toro’s Sauncho coded (and Takeshi Fumimota inspired) Sensei Sergio being effortlessly charismatic and his chemistry with Leonardo DiCaprio’s Bob giving room for plenty manic comedy to germinate into a zany tree.
This exciting green flag of a trailer is a guarantee of quality for what’s to come, it may not be Pynchon-zany after all like Anderson’s 2014 neo-noir Inherent Vice but it seems to be great fun with drops of Jonathan Demme. September can’t come soon enough.
