‘Squid Game’ Season 3 Trailer: The Games Must Continue
The first trailer for Squid Game Season 3 has been released. Here are all the details and speculation of what the season may entail.
Netflix has finally unveiled the trailer for Squid Game Season 3, its final season.
Squid Game released its second season at the tail end of 2024, so it’s quite a quick turnaround for the final season to be this month. It helps that they shot both seasons back to back, and the episode count is lower than Season 1.
While not yet confirmed by Netflix, it has been reported that Season 3 will have 6 episodes, one less than Season 2 and three less than Season 1. It makes sense considering S2 and S3 feel like they’re one story.
Season 2 of Squid Game ends with player 390, Jung-Bae, who happens to be Gi-Hun’s very good friend being killed by Front Man, who infiltrates Gi-Hun and his group in order to stop their resistance. However, Gi-Hun does not know yet that Front Man is his so-called friend, Young-Il.

What Happens In The Squid Game Season 3 Trailer?
The trailer opens with the players still alive, beginning another game. The games must continue on under any circumstances, by the look of it. We then transition to a scene of Gi-Hun asking why he was kept alive before he gets restrained by the guards. Then we see shots of the new games—some more deadly than ever. Then we see the perspectives of the players. Some, like Gi-Hun, are trying their best not to play the game, while others are adamant about playing for their survival.
In a later shot, Front Man takes off his mask, seemingly in a scene with Gi-Hun and asks, “Do you still have faith in people?”. The final shot is Gi-Hun walking into some room while wearing a tuxedo with his player number (465) on it.
What Does This Tell Us About Season 3?

Based on the trailer, the Season seems to be reinforcing the idea that the games must continue on no matter what, which is very consistent with how the games have been in the past. Nothing stops the main event—not even a deadly resistance.
There will likely be multiple storylines of how the season unfolds. The games which is the Gi-Hun storyline, the Front Man storyline, and the Jun-Ho storyline. For those unfamiliar, Jun-Ho is the detective that is trying to get to the bottom of the games. He is the brother of the Front Man, so it’s likely all three storylines will coincide.
He’s only in one shot of the Season 3 trailer, and was a smaller player in S2 than he was in S1, but they’ve been setting up his storyline from the start. The final 20 seconds of the trailer sets up a confrontation between Gi-Hun and the Front Man. It’s unclear what events lead to this, but if I had to speculate, it looks like Gi-Hun has won the games again.
Marketing has also indicated that this is the final season, but it is likely not going to be the last time the IP is used. There have been reports of a Squid Game America spinoff series from David Fincher. There are currently spinoff ideas from the creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk is exploring. Some even include filling in the gaps of time between Season 1 and 2, or even fleshing out the backstory for some of the characters in the show, including the Front Man.

Squid Game was created by Hwang Dong-hyuk. Season 3 stars Lee Jung-jae, Wi Ha-joon, Lee Byung-hun, and more. Season 3 will premiere on Netflix on June 27th.
