Robert Pattinson Joins ‘Dune: Messiah’ As Scytale

Dune: Messiah is set to start filming soon, and it looks like casting has already started. Robert Pattinson is going to be joining the illustrious franchise as the central villain, Scytale.

The third film in the Dune franchise will be adapting Dune Messiah, the second book in Frank Herbert’s Dune book series.

It was first reported by Deadline that he was in contention to play the role, as both sides had interest, but no offer was made. Since then, it sounds like he has officially agreed to join the film, according to insider Jeff Sneider.

Scytale is a Face Dancer that plots to overthrow Paul Atreides from his throne. The character is described as a manipulator of sorts.

Robert Pattinson isn’t the first actor to portray Scytale. Martin McDougall first played the role in the 2003 miniseries, Frank Herbert’s Children of Dune. The miniseries adapted both Dune Messiah, and Children of Dune into one miniseries.

Robert Pattinson’s role in Dune comes as a surprise not only because of how massive of a deal it is for the franchise but also because of how loaded his schedule is. Robert Pattinson is coming off production for Primetime and is currently shooting The Odyssey with Christopher Nolan. He is also set to start filming the sequel to The Batman sometime this year.

The Dune franchise is not shy of megastars—Dune 3 feels like it could be one of the most loaded casts put to screen in a long time.

The film, as of right now, is set to star Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Jason Momoa, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Robert Pattinson. There’s a chance that this cast will only get more and more loaded as it gets closer.

Dune: Messiah, as of right now, is set to start filming in summer, according to Deadline reporter Justin Kroll.
