New ‘Sonic The Hedgehog 3’ Trailer Gives Shadow A Weapon

With Sonic The Hedgehog 3 racing to theatres in under a month, a new trailer has been released. Watch the new Sonic The Hedgehog 3 trailer below.

Sonic The Hedgehog 3 is the fourth instalment in the live-action Sonic franchise. The film is inspired by Sonic Adventure 2 and was first announced in February 2022 during the ViacomCBS’s investor event. Filming for the animated characters began in July 2023 in Surrey, England while physical actors began filming later due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes in November 2023 in London. Filming was concluded in March 2024.

News about a third Sonic The Hedgehog film was first announced back in February 2022 at the ViacomCBS’ investor event the film would adapt Sonic Adventure 2. It was also stated that the original cast would return in the upcoming sequel. In April 2024, we would learn that Keanu Reeves would voice the film’s antagonist, Shadow The Hedgehog.

The first trailer released on August 27th, 2024. It gave us some of the backstory for Shadow The Hedgehog (Keanu Reeves) and his creator, Gerald Robotnik (Jim Carrey). We also saw Team Sonic’s first encounter with Shadow and the desperate measures they must take to stop him as they team up with Ivo Robotnik (Jim Carrey). Today a new trailer has been released which you can view below.

On Monday 18th, November we received two posters for Sonic The Hedgehog 3. The first shows Shadow looking over the rest of the cast which includes Gerald Robotnik, Ivo Robotnik, Knuckles, Sonic and Tails. We also see Shadow on his motorcycle and Sonic running alongside him. 

The Alternative poster has Gerald and Ivo Robotnik at the top, some of Ivo’s drones, Shadow above Tails, Sonic and Knuckles who are running on a road. To the left, we see the Big Ben in London and to the right is Tokyo. You can view both posters below:

What Happens In The Trailer?

In the trailer, we see Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles face off their biggest threat yet, Shadow. We see them recruiting Tom and Maddie to help them save the world. We also get our first look at Shadow using a gun, something ripped straight from the video games. Shadow’s power destroys what seems to be the moon and a few other cosmic-scale events occur. The official synopsis reads as follows:

Sonic the Hedgehog returns to the big screen this holiday season in his most thrilling adventure yet. Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails reunite against a powerful new adversary, Shadow, a mysterious villain with powers unlike anything they have faced before. With their abilities outmatched in every way, Team Sonic must seek out an unlikely alliance in hopes of stopping Shadow and protecting the planet.

Sonic The Hedgehog 3 is directed by Jeff Fowler and stars Ben Schwartz, Colleen O’ Shaughnessey, Idris Elba, Keanu Reeves, Jim Carrey, and more. The film hits theaters on December 20th 2024.
