Alisha Weir Might Be Dorothy in ‘Wicked: Part Two’

Alisha Weir Might Be Dorothy in ‘Wicked: Part Two’

As press for Wicked: Part One has picked up, fans have noticed Alisha Weir, a familiar musical face, appearing at multiple red carpets and events, with all signs pointing to Weir stepping into the role of Dorothy in Wicked: Part Two.

Alisha Weir, the Irish actress and singer, has quickly established herself as a standout talent with her captivating performance in Matilda the Musical. Her portrayal of Matilda, blending powerful acting and moving vocal performances in songs like “Naughty” and “Quiet,” earned her widespread acclaim. Weir’s roots in Dublin’s theater scene, with roles in productions like Annie and Once, laid the groundwork for her career in musical and dramatic roles.

Beyond Matilda, her versatility is evident even in her most recent movies, including the comedy Wicked Little Letters and the horror thriller Abigail, two completely different films that showcase the incredible range the young actress has. Through her filmography already, it is clear that she is capable of taking on just about any tone and her experience with the drama in these movies as well as her starring role as Matilda and her musical background, she’d be a very strong fit for the Wicked universe.

The actress has been spotted at multiple events and screenings of Wicked: Part One, despite not appearing in the movie. Whilst it is true that many celebrities and influencers have been invited to Wicked events due to the massive marketing push that Universal is giving the movie, they only appear at one or two of these gatherings. Why would Universal want to invite Weir to all of these promotions for Wicked and allow her to be so involved if they didn’t want her face known in preparation for the release of the second part next year?

Dorothy In ‘Wicked: Part Two’

In the trailer for the movie, there is a few shots of the characters now iconic for The Wizard of Oz including the Cowardly Lion, Tin Man and of course, Dorothy. With the movie out, we now know that this sequence does not appear in the movie and anyone familiar with the story of Wicked will understand why we haven’t met these characters in those forms yet.

So, alongside the fact that Weir has been attending events for Wicked, we know that Dorothy is supposed to appear in the franchise, and was potentially planned to appear in the first movie, at some point. From the still of the line up shown in the trailers, Dorothy does appear to be quite small and fit a similar build to Alisha Weir.

Dorothy is notably smaller than the rest of the characters and appears young, only being given height by the heels. After seeing the image and with the constant appearance of Weir at Wicked related locations, it is quickly starting to piece together.

Another thing to consider is that Universal, the movie studio behind Wicked, already has a strong liking to Weir and that could be another reason as to why she would get the role. After her stellar performance in Abigail, which was also produced by Universal, it’s unsurprising that they would want to work with her again – especially after she has been spoken so highly of by her co stars and directors as someone who is so talented at a young age. Pair this with her history of musical theatre and appearing in Netflix and Sony’s Matilda The Musical and it is evident why Universal would want to utilise all of Weir’s talents in what they consider one of their biggest films of all time.

Is Alisha Weir Dorothy in ‘Wicked: Part Two’?

This is not confirmed and we likely won’t hear about Dorothy’s casting for a very long time, or even until the movie is released, but the evidence is very compelling for a potential appearance from Alisha Weir in the sequel.
