Development of the Dune spinoff was first announced in 2019 with many of the creative figures joining later that year. In early 2023, Dune: Prophecy went through a creative rehaul as director Johan Renck and star Shirley Anderson, who was originally cast as Tula Harkonnen (Now played by Olivia Williams), both left the series. 

Casting for the series began in November 2022 and ended in June 2023, with principal photography running from November 2022 (in Budapest and Jordan) to December 2023. The series was able to shoot throughout the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in Budapest as the production was under contract with British Equity.

What Is ‘Dune: Prophecy’ About?

The series for the most part will adapt the novel “Sisterhood of Dune” written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. The series follows Vayla (Emily Watson) and Tula Harkonnen (Olivia Williams) as they establish the Sisterhood of the Bene Gesserit 10,000 years before the events of Dune.

The show’s logline reads as follows:

From the expansive universe of Dune, created by acclaimed author Frank Herbert, and 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides, Dune: Prophecy follows two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit. Dune: Prophecy is inspired by the novel “Sisterhood of Dune”, written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.

What Time Does ‘Dune: Prophecy’ Release?
