Who Is Kirsten McDuffie in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’?
In the first episode of Daredevil: Born Again, we meet Kirsten McDuffie, an assistant DA who eventually becomes Matt Murdock’s law firm partner.
The assistant DA, Kirsten McDuffie, makes her live-action debut in the premiere episode of Daredevil: Born Again. Kirsten McDuffie is played by Nikki M. James, who is most recently known as Alexa in Apple TV’s Severance.
Kirsten McDuffie in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’
We first meet Kirsten (Nikki M. James) at Josie’s bar, sitting beside Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) in episode one. She mentions wanting to leave the DA soon to join a firm and questions Foggy about one of his clients, Benny. One year later, Kirsten joins Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) to form Murdock & McDuffie. The two also become good friends. Kirsten is also responsible for introducing Matt to his future love interest, Heather Glenn (Margarita Levieva).
In the second episode, she expresses her doubts about taking on Hector Ayala’s (Kamar de los Reyes) case due to the workload at the firm. Still, she agrees after Matt reminds her that Murdock & McDuffie were made to take on the hard cases. Later in the episode, we see her accompany Cherry (Clark Johnson) to Hector’s apartment, where they speak with his wife, Soledad (Ashley Marie Ortiz).
In the third episode, Kirsten joins Matt during Hector’s trial. When Nicky Torres (Nick Jordan) lies to the court, she’s the first to question why. Eventually, the trial is concluded, and Hector is found not guilty.
Kirsten McDuffie in the Comics
In the comics, Kirsten remains an assistant DA who occasionally helps Nelson and Murdock with cases. She firmly believes that Matt Murdock is, in fact, the masked vigilante Daredevil and spares no expense in trying to uncover his secret identity, whether it’s calling Matt Murdock by the name Daredevil to his face or trying to squeeze the truth out of Foggy (who denies it every time).
Kirsten rarely has enemies outside of the courtroom and can hold her own in a fight if she’s ever physically threatened. She eventually leaves the district attorney to make a name for herself on her own and gets romantically involved with Matt Murdock. She even stands by his side when his alter ego is revealed to the world.
