‘What If…?’ S3 Episode 4 “What If… Howard the Duck Got Hitched?” Review

What If…? season 3 continues the concept shown in the first two seasons, showcasing how the smallest of choices can drastically change the stories we know from the live-action projects. Read our “What If… Howard the Duck Got Hitched?” Review.

Episode 4 is titled “What If… Howard the Duck Got Hitched?”. I was surprised to learn that this would be a continuation of the season 1 episode, “What If… Thor Was An Only Child?”, and I was even more shocked to learn that Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) and Howard the Duck’s (Seth Green) relationship would continue in this episode.

For lack of a better term, this episode felt like a Teen Titans Go! episode and luckily I quite enjoy those. With this episode being originally based off the Thor films, there are characters from all four films that appear alongside others from Doctor Strange, Avengers: Infinity War and Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 1 to name a few. The little easter eggs sprinkled throughout the episode were also a joy to discover.

While this meant that the episode felt very chaotic both in the events that unfold and the amount of characters were on screen at once, I really enjoyed seeing how they interacted with each other. Their personalities are mostly intact with the exception of a few moments where they are reduced to quick laughs.

I also loved how the episode used the song “I Was Made For Lovin’ You” by Kiss, it really helped me to enjoy Darcy & Howard’s relationship and root for them. Especially in the final moments of the episode.

Overall, while I came into this episode extremely cautious I ended up having a blast. While the episode can feel a bit chaotic at times, its core focus of Darcy and Howard navigating their lives as new parents is an absolute joy to witness.

What If…? Season 3, Episode 4 stars Jeffrey Wright as Uatu The Watcher, Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis and Seth Green as Howard the Duck. The series’ fifth episode, “What If… The Emergence Destroyed The Earth?”, hits Disney+ tomorrow at 12AM PST with episodes following daily at the same time, through December 29th.
