Von Kovak Talks ‘Wonder Man’ Remake In New Promo

Promotion has begun for the upcoming Spotlight series featuring an in-character interview with Von Kovak (Zlatko Burić).

Back in December 2021, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and now Spider-Man: Brand New Day director Destin Daniel Cretton signed a deal with Marvel Studios to create a Disney+ series. Six months later, we’d learn that Cretton will direct episodes of a Wonder Man series, Andrew Guest signed on as co-creator. That October, Marvel would find their Simon Williams in Yahya Abdul-Mateen II who many know as the villainous Black Manta in the DCEU’s Aquaman films.

Marvel themselves kept quiet about the series for quite some time, the series was name dropped during an episode of the Official Marvel Podcast but it was only until the “Marvel Studios | Look Ahead | Disney+” video that we finally received footage for the series which at the time was set for a December 2025 release. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Marvel Television and Animation head, Brad Winderbaum revealed that the series premiere has shifted to January 2026 marking Marvel Zombies as the final project of 2025.

In a collaboration between news outlet DiscussingFilm and Marvel Studios themselves we saw an interview with Von Kovak (Zlatko Burić), the director of the in-universe Wonder Man remake. We had previously seen this type of in-character promotion with our own Simon Williams at the red carpet premiere of The Fantastic Four: First Steps where he expressed his love for the original film and he was questioned about his ties to Trevor Slattery aka The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley). Following that interview with Von, we got new footage from the upcoming series ahead of the “Up Next From Marvel Television and Marvel Animation” at New York Comic Con where more info is set to be revealed. You can view both promotional videos below:

We also got the first poster for the series which is actually the poster for the original Wonder Man film which Simon Williams watched in theatres. You can view the poster below:

What Happens In The Wonder Man Promo?

Starting with the Von Kovak interview, he talks about why he wanted to do a Wonder Man remake. He starts off “We are all tired of superheroes, we live with them everyday and why go see them in the cinema. But for me, the Wonder Man story spoke to me on a very deep level and there is an opportunity to reimagine a whole genre of storytelling”.

Two hours later, Marvel released a new promo for Wonder Man which opens with a website called We Know Cinema, an article titled “Von Kovak Talks Inspiration For Wonder Man” is on screen and it’s the same interview we covered above. At this time the interviewer says “The entertainment world is stunned today when internationally celebrated and reclusive filmmaker Von Kovak sprung out of retirement to sign on for his first franchise film and remake of Wonder Man.” A paraphrased version of the interview is spoken while we see a poster of the original Wonder Man film followed by merch which includes a Wonder Man cassette tape, a thermos featuring the film’s villain and a lunch box with Wonder Man on it.

We continue with footage of the film, Wonder Man is seen fighting aliens and then flies away using his jetpack. The camera zooms out and we’re in a theatre, we see a young Simon with his dad watching the film, he looks in awe. Someone is stuck in traffic and we cut to some people reacting to Von Kovak’s interview he says “Holy sh-”. We see a shot of some people taking pictures with the Hollywood sign in the background. We cut to a camera recording a film with the working title “Cash Grab 2” it’s unclear whether this is for the Wonder Man remake or not. Someone shouts “Action” and we cut to members of the film crew. We cut to Von showing off his inspiration board, numerous Marvel heroes are shown such as Black Panther from his film, Captain America from Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Iron Man from his film and Thor from Thor: Love & Thunder.

We see Trevor Slattery getting his makeup done for a role, followed by Von’s assistant welcoming an off-screen person inside his mansion. We cut to the outside of a recording studio, props are scattered about and we see a preview of a Black & White film. Von is seen inside his home, his assistant holding a camera. Quick glimpses showcase people in a hallway who are trying to audition for the role of Wonder Man, a person wearing a cowboy outfit is then being recorded. The promo ends with Von Kovak’s interview, the interviewer asks “Have you given any thought about casting?” Simon looks in anticipation at Von’s response. The logo for Wonder Man wasn’t shown which could mean that the logo could be changed.
