A new DC Studios film is in development and will feature fan favourite villains Bane and Deathstroke.
According to a new report from Borys Kit and The Hollywood Reporter, DC Studios is developing yet another movie, this time featuring Teen Titans villain Deathstroke and Batman nemesis Bane. While THR says the characters are getting “the movie treatment,” Deadline clarifies, stating that the movie may not centre around these characters.
The movie is set to be written by Matthew Orton, who currently serves as a scribe on Captain America: Brave New World at Marvel Studios. He’s best known for Moon Knight, Devil’s Peak, and Operation Finale.
What this project could be is anyone’s guess, with many fans online speculating this to be a Secret Six project, or simply a teamup between the two. Speculating here, but I personally believe this may be an outcome of the now defunct Arkham series, which I propose has been repurposed into a film.
This new film marks the eleventh canon DC Universe film in development at DC Studios and the twelfth overall. It joins recent announcements such as Teen Titans, Sgt. Rock, and Plastic Man. This likely means we won’t be seeing it for a few years, with DC Studios only having set dates for two upcoming DCU movies.
Bane was created as a Batman villain in the 1990s by Chuck Dixon and Graham Nolan and has since gone on to become one of the most iconic characters in Bruce Wayne’s Rogues Gallery. The villain most notably was played by Tom Hardy in Christopher Nolan’s 2012 juggernaut The Dark Knight Rises.
Deathstroke on the other hand, was created in the ‘80s by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez as a Teen Titans villain. His blow-up in popularity led the character to also antagonize Batman and the Justice League, making him one of DC’s most feared assassins. He’s most notably appeared in the DCEU (played by Joe Manganiello), in the TV show Arrow (Manu Bennett), and in the series Titans (Esai Morales).
DC Studios is being masterminded by James Gunn and Peter Safran and is currently actively producing Superman, Lanterns, Peacemaker Season 2, and Creature Commandos.
