‘TRON: Ares’ First Reactions Revealed: Hailed An Audiovisual Treat Let Down By A Weak Script
The third film in the decades-spanning TRON franchise, TRON: Ares, is finally right around the corner, and critics and influencers have just gotten to see the movie.
First released in 1982, TRON is one of the most iconic sci-fi franchises to date. Noted for its usage of computer-generated graphics, the franchise has come to span three films and a TV show. However, the films have been on hiatus since Joseph Kosinski’s directorial debut TRON Legacy back in 2010. Now, Disney Studios have reignited the franchise with the star studded TRON: Ares, starring Jared Leto in the titular role, with supporting performances from WandaVision’s Evan Peters, and Past Lives’ Greta Lee.
Now, screenings have been held all over the globe to celebrate the release of the film, letting critics and journalists to see the film early. Read the first Tron: Ares reactions below:
Past ‘TRON’ Critics’ Scores

Released in 1982, TRON, the original film in the franchise, was praised for its technological aspects, with a 67% critics score from 105 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and a consensus that reads: “Though perhaps not as strong dramatically as it is technologically, TRON is an original and visually stunning piece of science fiction that represents a landmark work in the history of computer animation.”
As for its follow-up, TRON Legacy, directed by Joseph Kosinski and featuring music by Daft Punk, that film holds a saddening 51% critics’ score from 249 reviews. The critics’ consensus for the film reads as follows: “TRON Legacy boasts dazzling visuals, but its human characters and story get lost amidst its state-of-the-art production design.”
The Disney Channel program TRON: Uprising released back in 2012, following up TRON Legacy, and was met with positive reception on Rotten Tomatoes, with five reviews amounting to a 100% critics’ score. Due to the low amount of reviews, the series did not receive a consensus.
‘TRON: Ares’ Reactions

TRON: Ares reactions are leaning quite mixed as the movie is being praised for its Score, VFX, and visuals, while performances, story, plot, and characters aren’t getting a positive reception.

TRON: Ares is due out in cinemas on October 10th, 2025 in the United States. In other regions, it may release on either the 8th or the 9th, depending on where.
