While appearing at a film festival for an upcoming short film, Tom Holland commented on his involvement in Spider-Man 4 and the creative processes behind the film.
Tom Holland, 27, best known for his roles in the MCU Spider-Man franchise and Sony’s Uncharted film, recently attended a screening at the 3rd Sands International Film Festival for his upcoming short film, Last Call, which co-starred Lindsay Duncan (About Time) and was directed by his brother Harry Holland.
While participating in the festival’s first annual golf tournament, the actor commented on his involvement in the upcoming fourth film in the Marvel Studios produced Spider-Man 4. Speaking to Deadline’s Mike Fleming Jr, Holland stated he will “always want to do Spider-Man films.”
An expected answer but an interesting one never-the-less as the third live-action Peter Parker is yet to rise above the role and separate his career from the character. A fact that’s confirmed when he states “I owe my life and career to Spider-Man. So the simple answer is yes. I’ll always want to do more” in regards to doing more films about the web-swinging hero.
Holland further comments on how the team working on the upcoming film will avoid retreading past themes and issues poised in the prior “Home” trilogy.
“We have the best in the business working toward whatever the story might be. But until we’ve cracked it, we have a legacy to protect, the third movie was so special in so many ways that we need to make sure we do the right thing.”
Spider-Man 4 has brought on prior producers Kevin Feige (CCO of Marvel Entertainment), Amy Pascal (Challengers) and 26-year Marvel alum Avi Arad but is yet to announce the director and writers of the film. Development is currently well underway as confirmed by Pascal in mid-2023.
However, Tom Holland has confirmed his involvement creatively in the film saying “this is the first time in this process that I’ve been part of the creative so early. It’s just a process where I’m watching and learning.”
He further adds “It’s just a really fun stage for me. Like I said, everyone wants it to happen. But we want to make sure we’re not overdoing the same things.” A quote that surely assures sceptical fans who are tired of the multiversal madness currently making waves across the blockbuster field.
Holland next appears in a stage adaptation of Romeo & Juliet on the West End alongside Francesca Amewudah-Rivers. Marvel Studios’ next film is Deadpool & Wolverine which will be releasing its second trailer later today ahead of the film’s July 2024 theatrical release. On the flip side over at Sony, Kraven The Hunter arrives in theatres on August 30 and stars Aaron Taylor Johnson as the iconic Spider-Man villain.
