‘Thunderbolts*’ Approximate Runtime Revealed (Exclusive)

The latest entry into the MCU is on the horizon, and we now know how long you can expect to be trapped in your theater’s void.

First officially announced back at Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel at SDCC in 2022, Thunderbolts* follows a ragtag group of misfit anti-heroes from previous films in the MCU as they band together against current CIA director Val, who is attempting to cover up her political dirt. The team also comes across a man named Bob, who may be more than he seems. The film’s synopsis reads:

After finding themselves ensnared in a death trap set by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, these disillusioned castoffs must embark on a dangerous mission that will force them to confront the darkest corners of their pasts. Will this dysfunctional group tear themselves apart, or find redemption and unite as something much more before it’s too late?

We can now reveal what we know about the runtime of Thunderbolts*.

Thunderbolts* currently has an approximate runtime of 2 hours.

This runtime is in line with many of the most recent Marvel outings, with Ant-man and the Wasp: Quantumania, The Marvels, and Deadpool & Wolverine, and most recently – Captain America: Brave New World having lengths in the same ballpark. Many online see these short runtimes as a bad omen considering the critical and financial failure of the aforementioned films (sans Deadpool & Wolverine), however the talent behind this one should give the naysayers some more hope. From Beef director Jake Schreier, to The Bear scribe Joanna Calo, in conjunction with lead star Florence Pugh’s comments calling the film “A24-feeling,” it’s safe to say things aren’t looking too shabby for this one.

Thunderbolts* is based on the Marvel Comics series of the same name and stars a stacked cast with Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as John Walker, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, Lewis Pullman as Bob, with Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Val, and more. The film is directed by Jake Schreier with a script from Joanna Calo, Eric Pearson, and Lee Sung Jin. The film hits theaters on May 2nd.
