Admittedly, while watching The Thundermans Return, I felt a bit disoriented, perhaps because I had not seen the cast for a long time. I’m not sure if I was able to enjoy it as much as I did this new series. The Thundermans: Undercover feels like a true successor to the original series, capturing the same comedy and topics as the original.

The new series shifts the spotlight to Chloe Thunderman and her journey to becoming a proper superhero. Fans of the original series have nothing to fear as Phoebe, Max, and even Dr Colosso are right by Chloe’s side, making for exciting adventures to come. Other members of the original cast also appear, though it’s uncertain how they will fit into the new series.

The special effects of the superpowers are well made, and there’s only one moment in the opening minutes that felt a bit off with some noticeable green screen. Dr Colosso also very much looks like a puppet still, but his personality overlooks any issues regarding that and I’m happy to see one of the staples of the franchise return yet again.

Enough about reminiscing about the old cast; I’m also looking forward to the new ones. In the first episode, we’ve only been introduced to two mainstays, Jinx (Nathan Broxton) and Kombucha (Kinley Cunningham). Both characters are a bit odd, but I’m sure they’ll make for some funny scenes when paired with Chloe, Phoebe, and Max as they try to keep their secret.

Overall, I’m happy with this sequel series, which really feels like it paid close attention to the formula of the original series. What made me even more excited while writing this review was learning that the first season would consist of 26 episodes! As I began to rewatch older series’, I started to miss lengthy seasons, so this is a welcomed surprise.
