‘The Punisher’ Special Presentation In Development At Marvel
Marvel Television executive, Brad Winderbaum, has shed light on the future of Frank Castle.
During an interview with Comicbook.com during a press junket for the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series, Marvel Television head Brad Winderbaum revealed that a Punisher special presentation is in development with Frank Castle actor, Jon Bernthal, assisting in development on the project.
This iteration of the character first made his debut in season 2 of Netflix’s Daredevil back in 2016. The Punisher later got his own two season series alongside an appearance in The Defenders. The character will officially make his return to the MCU in season one of Daredevil: Born Again, which premieres next week. When asked about Frank Castle in the upcoming series, Winderbaum stated, “That’s a character that’s very personal to Jon, he has made that character an icon, and he is, I think I can say, he is working on a special presentation right now about that character.”

It is currently unknown when or if this project will come to fruition, but Marvel has found previous success in their “special presentation” projects, with Werewolf By Night and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special both earning “Certified Fresh” scores with critics on Rotten Tomatoes. With this in mind alongside the new Marvel Television mindset of limiting the amount of shows they produce with the focus being on developing multi-season projects, a special presentation could serve as a great way to develop characters and plot lines without the commitment of a $250M television series or show.
Daredevil: Born Again stars Charlie Cox as Daredevil, Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin, and Jon Bernthal as The Punisher. Dario Scardapane serves as the series’ showrunner with Kevin Feige, Sana Amanat, and Brad Winderbaum serving as executive producers. Streaming on Disney+ on March 4th.
