‘The Acolyte’ Trailer: Breakdown And Details You May Have Missed

The newest trailer for the next Star Wars series, The Acolyte, has been released for May The 4th. Here’s a breakdown of the trailer including details you might have missed.

We open the trailer with a shot of a setting sun which then cuts to a lightsaber seen on the ground with Amandla Stenberg’s acolyte character, Mae, pulling her dagger out of the floorboards with the force. Over this, we get dialogue from a new unseen character, Tasi Lowa, who explains that “last night, a Jedi was murdered.”

Next we see shots of younglings being trained by Lee Jung-jae’s Jedi character, Master Sol. The trailer cuts to some other shots of space and Master Sol walking through what appears to be some kind of jail, which is holding some angry looking aliens. The lines of voice over during this part come from Qimir (Manny Jacinto), who explains that “the Jedi justify their galactic dominance in the name of peace.”

Qimir continues to explain that “the peace is a lie” while we see Mae engaged in combat against Master Indara played by Carrie-Anne Moss. Mae throws knives at the Jedi Master as Indara effortlessly blocks them using her green-bladed lightsaber.

Yord Fandar (Charlie Barnett) is up next to give us some exposition, he gives us an explanation for the main mystery for the Jedi in this show, the fact that “Jedi are being hunted.” Next we see shots of Yord and Master Sol on a snowy planet, which then cuts to Mae “fighting” what appears to be a Jedi who is standing perfectly still as the dark assassin goes in for a stab.

We see a shot of a lightsaber in some red soil as the focus moves on to a look of what appears to be the coven of Witches shown in the last trailer, whom is led by Mother Aniseya (Jodie Turner-Smith). Master Sol then explains that the dark assassin Mae was actually his student. He thinks he should “be the one to bring her in.” A fight between Sol and Mae is shown next with the Jedi Master easily dodging multiple stab attempts.

A shot of a ship descending towards a planet is shown when we hear the voice of Vernestra Rwoh (Rebecca Henderson) explaining that she “[senses] this is only a small part of a larger plan.” The coven of Witches then perform some kind of magic on Dean-Charles Chapman’s character as his eyes turn black and he falls to his knees.

Vernestra continues that this plan could “tip the scales” as we see Mae approaching a mysterious figure on an island. Shots of a ship flying through what appears to be the rings of a planet are narrated over by Mae who tells Sol that “its time to face the past,” where its then revealed that Mae is now wearing a green kyber crystal necklace now. A fortress is shown exploding as a kid is seen running through a burning forest.

Some shots of a group of Jedi are shown as Mother Aniseya explains to Mae that “destiny is not decided for you by an anonymous force,” and advises that “if you want to pull the tread and change everything, then pull it.” During this we see shots of multiple Jedi in peril, including Mae holding a knife to Jecki Lon’s (Dafne Keen) neck.

Finally, we land on a shot of a dark figure among the trees, they ignite a red lightsaber and reveal a dark mask which appears to be adorned with grinning teeth. The group of Jedi seem frightened as Sol simply asks, “What are you?” The masked figure swings their saber toward the camera as the trailer cuts to the logo.
