Spider-Man 4 Delayed By A Week

As filming begins to ramp up for the next set of MCU movies, Spider-Man 4 has officially received a small delay.

Spider-Man 4 Delayed By A Week

Originally slated for July 24th 2026, Spider-Man 4 has now been delayed a week to July 31st – a small delay in comparison to the ones we have seen in recent times for other Marvel projects. This likely implies that the reason for the delay is not to do with production or in order to refine or rework any elements of the movie, but instead for competition sake.

Releasing two weeks earlier, on July 17th, is Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, also starring Tom Holland. How he is going to make time to film both of these huge movies, in which he reportedly plays a major part, alongside Avengers: Doomsday as well is another issue entirely, but these two blockbusters being close together presents an issue for Spider-Man 4.

Nolan has a strong and growing relationship with IMAX, whom, after the massive success of Oppenheimer, will be eager to work closely with the renowned director and negotiate on specific demands he will be looking for.

One of these demands is IMAX exclusivity and taking up a large number of premium screens for two weeks, which would’ve intersected with the opening of Spider-Man 4 and thus meant it had less screens to show on and likely wouldn’t have been able to have the typical superhero IMAX big-screen rollout. In order to avoid this, they simply pushed the movie back a week hoping that more screens would be free by then to make sure the new Spidey picture is seen by as many people as possible on the biggest screen possible.

How Will Spider-Man 4 Be Different?

Most recently, scooper Daniel RPK claimed that the movie would be an entirely new take on the character, as many had already predicted. With the situation that Peter Parker is left in at the end of No Way Home, he has to start over and it’s only right that the audience comes on this journey with him and that it’s framed in an entirely different way to his teenage years and coming to terms with being the friendly neighborhood hero.

RPK also states that there will be a new supporting cast, though it’s unlikely that they will go ahead without Zendaya, but there will likely be a new roster of characters around Parker to take him into his next stage of life. Finally, it is also said that Destin Daniel Cretton, the film’s director, will be taking the film in a new direction than has been seen before with the character.

His style that was showcased in Shang Chi is very different to the one Watts brought to the Spider-Man trilogy and so with the potential of Cretton’s high octane, close-up fights with slick camera movements and emphasis on personal relationships, it’s likely that this movie will be the most different to the others so far.
