‘Ocean’s 14’ In Early Development With George Clooney And Brad Pitt Returning

Seventeen years after the release of Ocean’s Thirteen, the film is set to receive a sequel with George Clooney and Brad Pitt reprising their roles as Danny Ocean and Rusty Ryan.

In December 2001, a remake of a 1960 film titled Ocean’s 11 released, which originally had a cast consisting of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., and more. The remake starred George Clooney as Danny Ocean (originally played by Frank Sinatra), Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Andy García,  Julia Roberts, Casey Affleck, and more. The film was popular for receiving high critical acclaim and becoming a major box-office hit, that a sequel was already in the works.

Fast-forward to Ocean’s 12 and Ocean’s 13, it was certain that the Ocean’s franchise had become a household name. But the question remains, what made these movies unique when compared to the rest of heist genre films? The Ocean’s movies primarily centered around the concept of planning a heist, and managing to pull it off masterfully. The technique they use to showcase how they plan their heist was a big influence on heist films afterwards, with a lot of other films coming out after it mimicking its style of planning the heist.

As of today, Ocean’s 14 was just announced to be in early development with George Clooney and Brad Pitt set to reprise their roles, Matt Damon, Casey Affleck, and the rest of the cast including Al Pacino, Julia Roberts, Don Cheadle, and more, are all expected to return as well. Meanwhile Edward Berger is in talks to direct the film, Berger is famous for directing the 2022 film All Quiet On The Western Front, which secured 4 Academy Award wins.

The question here though, is when would Ocean’s 14 release? It’s unknown when it could begin filming, but the matter is that there was supposed to be another Ocean’s film set to begin filming this year, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, who both worked together before in Barbie, the Ocean’s film probably got delayed though due to Margot Robbie’s pregnancy. The film was going to serve as a prequel set in 1960s Europe which was going to be a mix of a heist film and a romance one, said director Jay Roach:

“It is a heist movie still, but it’s very much a love story. And we were both inspired by Hitchcock. To Catch a Thief but also Notorious. It just wants to be a big, big, you know, cinematic spectacle.” It’s possible that this film could begin filming early next year at least, and with a 2026 release in mind. Additionally, Linus Sandgren, who is famous for working on La La Land and No Time To Die will serve as the Director of Photography.

In a best case scenario, both the prequel and the sequel could end up shooting next year and release in 2026, one film slated in the first half of the year and the other slated in the second half of the year.
