With a little over a month before the Lethal Protector returns to the big screen, a new trailer for Venom: The Last Dance has just been released.
From as early as 1997, a Venom film was in the works from Sony. Despite many failed attempts, Sony kept persisting until March 2016 when they would revive the project in a film described as a standalone that would eventually grow into a franchise (which it did!). A year later the film would be given a release date of October 5th, 2018 with Tom Hardy announced to play Eddie Brock months later. Three years later a sequel, Venom: Let There Be Carnage would also hit theaters on October 1st, 2021. Finally, the third film to end the trilogy hits theatres on October 25th, 2024.
The sequel was first announced at CinemaCon in April 2022, soon after Kelly Marcel was announced as the screenwriter by Tom Hardy. Subsequently, it would be announced as Marcel’s directorial debut. The film also experienced its fair share of release date changes, jumping from October 2024 to July 12th, 2024. Followed by November 8th, 2024 until going back to its original slot of October 25th, 2024. The official trailer was released on June 3rd, 2024 and introduced us to what was seemingly Xenophages and the first indication of Knull. A few months later on September 8th, 2024, a trailer countdown spot was released, to announce the latest trailer. You can watch the trailer below:
What Happens In The ‘Venom: The Last Dance’ Trailer?
The trailer retreads some old ground, repeating some of the footage seen in prior trailers. But additionally, scenes of Knull, the God of Symbiotes, is seen being teased, with a profile of his head, laden with white hair. He is mentioned by name. Similar to the Venomized Horse (or the colloquial Vorse) seen in Trailer 1, a Venomized Fish is also seen. Rhys Ifans’ currently unnamed character has a line too. The trailer ends on a lighthearted note, with Venom running out of coins to play a slot machine.
The synopsis for the film reads as follows:
In Venom: The Last Dance, Tom Hardy returns as Venom, one of Marvel’s greatest and most complex characters, for the final film in the trilogy. Eddie and Venom are on the run. Hunted by both of their worlds and with the net closing in, the duo are forced into a devastating decision that will bring the curtains down on Venom and Eddie’s last dance.
Venom: The Last Dance, directed by Kelly Marcel, stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock / Venom, Stephen Graham as Patrick Mulligan, Peggy Lu as Mrs. Chen, Chiwetel Ejiofor as a Military Soldier, and more. The film hits theatres on October 25th, 2024.
