Today, the news has broken out that Multiversus developer, Player First Games has been acquired by Warner Bros. Games, this announcement comes ahead of the game entering its second season on July 23rd, 2024. 

Warner Bros. Games (formerly Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment) was founded on January 14th, 2004 and serves as the publisher for beloved game franchises such as Batman: Arkham, Mortal Kombat, and most recently Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League amongst others.

Co-founders, Tony Huynh, and Chris White, will still run Player First Games however, they will now report to vice president and studio head of Warner Bros. Games San Diego, Carlos Barbosa.

Tony Huynh expressed his excitement for the acquisition:

Our team is excited to join the Warner Bros. Games family, and we feel that this will be great for MultiVersus overall. We are working to make the MultiVersus game experience the best it can be and having our development team integrated with the publisher is optimum for the players.

What Is ‘Multiversus’?

Multiversus is developed by Player First Games with Warner Bros. Games San Diego serving as the production support and live management. The game can be described as a free-to-play 2D, platform fighter which sees characters from various Warner Brothers properties including but not limited to DC, Adventure Time, Steven Universe, and Scooby Doo, duking it out across the Multiverse. The game is available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, and PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store).

The synopsis for the game reads as follows:

In MultiVersus, the Multiverse is at your fingertips as you battle it out in intense 2v2 matches. Up against Batman & Shaggy? Try using Finn the Human & Tom and Jerry! This platform fighter lets you play out your fantasy matchups in a fun co-op or head-to-head fight for supremacy.
