Following its reveal as a New York Film Festival world premiere, Luca Guadagnino’s first film since the disastrous After The Hunt has released its first trailer, showcasing the origins of a revolutionary device that continues to ravage the internet to this day. Watch the Artificial trailer below:

The trailer sees Sam Altman, the infamous co-founder of OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, journey through his compound while an eerie promise of revolution rings out in narration. The trailer also depicts first looks at Yura Borisov as Ilya Sutskever and Monica Barbaro as Mira Murati. The synopsis for the film reads as follows:

In 2003, Soviet-born computer scientist Ilya Sutskever (Yura Borisov) began studying artificial neural networks under University of Toronto professor Geoffrey “Godfather of AI” Hinton (Mark Rylance). A decade later, while employed by Google, Sutskever fatefully crosses paths with a young entrepreneur named Sam Altman (Andrew Garfield), the eventual co-founder and CEO of OpenAI.

The trailer also marks the announcement of a release date for Artificial, which distributor NEON has slated to release on Christmas Day 2026. It will go head to head with another auteur created film at the box office, Robert Eggers’ Werwulf.

Luca Guadagnino is best known for his emotionally intimate films such as Call Me By Your Name, Bones and All, Challengers, Queer, and After the Hunt, the latter of which starred Artificial collaborator Andrew Garfield.
