‘Lanterns’ Gets An Updated Release Window From James Gunn
With the confirmation of the latest DCU timeline, we now have a better idea of when the ‘Lanterns’ series will release.
On Saturday, DC Studios Co-CEO James Gunn responded to a fan on Threads and gave us our first look at the chronological timeline for the DC Universe. With it we received a better idea of when the upcoming Lanterns series will release.
What Is Lanterns About?

Lanterns was first announced during the “DCU Chapter 1 – Gods & Monsters” video which premiered on January 31st, 2023 which saw James Gunn map out the future of this new DC universe.
As time went on, the castings of our titular heroes Hal Jordan and John Stewart were revealed as Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre respectively, as well as Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro, one of the most iconic Green Lantern villains.
The series inspired by the likes of True Detective will follow Hal Jordan and John Stewart as they investigate a murder that occurs in a small town on Earth. See the official logline below:
The series follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.
When Will Lanterns Release?

Per James Gunn via Threads, we now know that Lanterns will premiere before the DCU’s second theatrical film, Supergirl, which hits theatres on June 26th, 2026. This means that Lanterns will premiere anywhere between January and June of 2026.
Lanterns is created by Chris Mundy and stars Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan, Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardener, Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro. and more. The series premieres on HBO Max in 2026.
