‘Lanterns’ Adds Kelly Macdonald, Offers Roles To Garret Dillahunt & Poorna Jagannathan

HBO’s Lanterns series has added a new member to its cast, Kelly Macdonald, and offered two new roles to actors Garret Dillahunt, and Poorna Jagannathan.

Following the recent casting of the upcoming Green Lantern series’ two leads, Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, DC Studios’ Lanterns has cast three new characters. 

The first casting is Kelly Macdonald, of Boardwalk Empire fame, who is returning to HBO in a big role in the upcoming series. She will play Sherriff Kerry Kane, a character described as “a no-nonsense woman deeply devoted to her family and close-knit town. Her resilience, shaped by a complex past that’s hardened her resolve, anchors her when the community’s secrets begin to surface.” She will reportedly be the love interest to Hal, as reported by @ApocHorseman on Twitter/X.

Up next is Garret Dillahunt and Poorna Jagannathan, two actors who have been reportedly offered the roles of Dillon and Zoe, as per a report via Nexus Point News. ApocHorseman reported back on October 10 that John will get into an affair with an older woman named Zoe, a native American woman in an all-white town. She would be married to a man named Dillon, a businessman who would serve an antagonist role for the series. 

Lanterns is currently in pre-production and is aiming to shoot early next year. The series doesn’t have a date yet, however It’s expected that it will release in 2026 on Max.

Lanterns stars Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan, Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, and Kelly Macdonald as Kerry Kane. It is created by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, and is executive produced by James Gunn and Peter Safran. The series currently has an 8-episode order at HBO and will stream on Max.
