First ‘Zootopia 2’ Trailer: A High Speed Chase Around The World
The teaser trailer for Zootopia 2 throws our heroes into a high-speed chase all across the world with a mysterious figure along the way.
The idea of a sequel to Zootopia began in June 2016 when directors Byron Howard and Rich Moore were said to be in talks about returning to direct a potential sequel. On February 8th, 2023, during the Q1 Earnings Call, Bob Iger announced that the film was in active development with screenwriter Jared Bush announcing his involvement later that day. A year later, the film would officially be known as Zootopia 2 and a release date was given.
Fast forward two months later, and the film would be in production, indicated by a post from Judy Hopps’ voice actor, Ginnifer Goodwin. During the D23 Expo on August 9th, the film was confirmed to feature reptiles with Ke Huy Quan taking on the role as Gary De’Snake. Footage was shown which featured Judy, Gary and Nick (Jason Bateman). As time went on, we received additional casting such as Fortune Feimster as Nibbles, Quinta Brunson as a new character, Dr. Fuzzby and the return of Shakira as Gazelle, who also confirmed that she’d be writing a new song for the film.

Additionally, we received a poster a day prior, which shows Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) caught by newcomer Gary De’Snake (Ke Huy Quan) who’s forming the number 2. You can view the poster below.
What Happens In The Zootopia 2 Trailer?
Some hamsters wearing red shades and black clothing appear on a piano, they do a countdown followed by a pop theme to open the trailer. Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) appears on screen, Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) pops into existence and Gary De’Snake (Ke Huy Quan) falls from the sky and hugs the two. We see them being chased off-screen by Rhino Police Officers, then we swap to an underwater city where Nibbles (Fortune Feimster) guides them to their second escape from Hippo Police Officers.
Their chase takes them to a snowy town, where they escape Husky Police Officers who carry a Boar Police Officer. They’re taken to the mountain tops to avoid Bears and Elephant Police Officers, then a desert town where they almost get caught by the Rhino officers before Judy blows an air horn and a party begins with various animals wearing costumes such as a Darth Vader helmet. Finally, Judy, Nick and Gary are on a rooftop where a cloaked figure slowly approaches them. The trailer ends with a montage of characters from the first film such as Gazelle, Mr. Big, Duke Weaselton and Finnick, alongside some of the new ones. The logo features Gary forming the number 2.
