First Details For Zach Cregger’s ‘Weapons’ Revealed (Exclusive)
We can exclusively reveal the first details and the runtime for Zach Cregger’s ‘Weapons’, starring Josh Brolin and Julia Garner.
Weapons, the highly anticipated follow-up from Barbarian director Zach Cregger, is shaping up to be one of the most exciting and unique horror/thriller films on the 2025 slate. Warner Bros. recently bumped up the release date to August 8, 2025, from 2026, which shows major confidence in the project.
It’s not a move that is often seen in this age of delays, especially for an original concept horror film, which implies that it must have been something special if Warner Bros. is eager to show it off even earlier than expected.
Following the massive success of Barbarian, which became a breakout cult hit thanks to its unique dual-narratives, expectations are high for Cregger’s next outing—and it looks like Weapons could be even more ambitious.
Thanks to one of our sources, we can exclusively reveal a plot synopsis and details for Weapons:
In a small town, a confusing event sends shockwaves through the community when an entire class of middle school students vanishes under mysterious circumstances. As accusations fly and tensions rise, all eyes turn to the one person who seems connected to the disappearance: their teacher. But the truth is far more sinister than anyone could imagine.
Told through fragmented perspectives and unfolding in a non-linear fashion, the story dives into the lives of those affected by the tragedy—each offering clues to piece together what really happened that night. Dark secrets, hidden agendas, and supernatural forces come to light as two unlikely allies—a grieving parent and the accused teacher—work to uncover the chilling reality behind the students’ disappearance.

The film boasts an impressive main cast, which includes Josh Brolin, Julia Garner and Austin Abrams with Benedict Wong, Alden Ehrenreich, and Amy Madigan rounding out the supporting cast to form a strong on-screen team
The multi-story narrative already sets Weapons apart from most mainstream horror offerings, which helps us begin to understand why Warner Bros. has such high faith in this movie. An anthology is very hard to pull off – multiple interconnected stories aren’t attempted as much in movies today because it is overly complicated and expects the audience to keep up, but clearly Cregger has done it in a smart and interesting way, which is why WB is giving this horror film the push it deserves.
Evidently, it isn’t just about scares, though that’ll no doubt be important to Cregger, but it’s about building a sprawling, interconnected story that touches on real, grounded themes that elevate the horror, but are not defined by it.
We can also exclusively reveal that the runtime for the movie is 2 hours 7 minutes, making it Cregger’s longest and longer than Barbarian by over 20 minutes.
As well as this, our source confirms to us that a trailer will be arriving this month, likely before Warner Bros’ next movie, Sinners, releases in cinemas, so that it can play before showings of the film.
Cregger will next direct a new Resident Evil movie for Sony, envisioned as a reimagining and a fresh start to a new universe for the studio.

Weapons is directed by Zach Cregger and stars Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Benedict Wong, Austin Abrams, Alden Ehrenreich and June Diane Raphael. J.D Lifshitz, Miri Yoon, Rory Lee, Zach Cregger and Raphael Margules are producing.
