Eminem’s latest single, Houdini, has taken the internet by storm due to the return of one of the artists’ most beloved eras.
Marshall Mathers, best known as Eminem, has dropped his new single “Houdini” ahead of the release of his new LP, The Death of Slim Shady. The song has since gone viral on the internet due to its nostalgic lyricism, last seen in albums such as Encore.
General reception says the song is a welcome move despite his last album, Music to Be Murdered By, performing exceptionally. As for that catchy hook, “Houdini” samples Steve Miller Band’s 1982 hit “Abracadabra”, making for a recognizable beat.
The rapper also premiered the music video for the single on Friday, which featured the return of Eminem’s iconic Rapboy, a character who debuted in his “Without Me” music video back in 2002, where he starred as a sidekick to Dr Dre’s Batman parody. Dr. Dre also makes a surprise return in the new music video, along with a number of other relevant celebrities such as Snoop Dogg, Pete Davidson, and Eminem’s own children.
Currently, “Houdini” is #1 on iTunes in the US and Trending #1 on YouTube worldwide, garnering 16M views since the video’s release. Though a release date is imminent, Eminem’s The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) will be released later this summer. You can stream “Houdini” on Spotify below.
