In a recent interview at D23 Expo in Brazil, David Harbour has confirmed that Lewis Pullman’s character Bob is also the Sentry.
There has been a lot of speculation around the Thunderbolts* movie, with most of it now being centred around the asterisk that appears in the title. Feature First has previously speculated that this could be because the team’s name will change at the end of the movie to “The New Avengers,” which seems more likely trailer after trailer.
The original speculation, however, was concerned with Lewis Pullman’s character Bob, who might be the worst kept secret in comic book movies this year. Previously, Bob was to be played by Steven Yeun and even then, it was well known that he would really be Sentry. In a recent interview with omeleteve, David Harbour confirmed that Lewis Pullman would be playing Sentry, finally ending months of knowing speculation,
“We’ll have to see how it unfolds with all of that. I don’t think you guys know much about Bob/Sentry yet, so you’ll have to see what that becomes in this movie.” Harbour states “But I don’t want to give too much away.” By that point, it was too late to tap out and he had already revealed one of the biggest mysteries surrounding the movie.
What is ‘Thunderbolts*’ About?
The official synopsis for Thunderbolts* reads: “Marvel Studios and a crew of indie veterans who sold out present Thunderbolts*, an irreverent team-up featuring depressed assassin Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) alongside the MCU’s least anticipated band of misfits.”
Thunderbolts* is poised to be a pivotal film within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, combining an ensemble of anti-heroes and morally ambiguous figures who are recruited by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine for high-risk government missions.
The plot, though largely under wraps, revolves around this unconventional team which includes Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, U.S. Agent, Taskmaster, and Ghost as they navigate internal conflicts and external threats. The addition of Sentry, a character known for his immense power and psychological instability, introduces a volatile dynamic that could either unite or dismantle the group.
The excitement for this movie comes from its exploration of redemption, loyalty, and ethical dilemmas – being the first movie in the MCU to fully address depression and anxiety, making it a central conflict of the movie. Whilst there is a big bad and lots of physical fights, all of the characters are experiencing mental battles too as they have inner fights, contrasting sharply with the idealism often associated with the Avengers.
Thunderbolts* is directed by Jake Schreier and stars Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Lewis Pullman, Geraldine Viswanathan, Olga Kurylenko, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell and Hannah John-Kamen. Kevin Feige is producing. Louis D’Esposito, Brian Chapek, Jason Tamez, and Scarlett Johansson serve as executive producers.
