Dan Trachtenberg has begun filming his follow-up to Prey, the Predator movie Badlands.
In 2018, 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg approached The Predator producer John Davis with a pitch. That pitch turned into the highly successful Prey, which was released on Hulu (and Disney+ in some regions) four years later.
Prey put a twist on the Predator franchise, becoming the first prequel in the franchise and the first movie with a full Comanche language dub, and with the report from Deadline’s Justin Kroll, Prey is expected to see its own sequel.
Predator: Badlands will serve as a sequel to the franchise as a whole, and take place in the future. The movie has just begun filming with the only apparent cast member attached being Elle Fanning. Fanning is best known for her roles in Disney’s Maleficent movies, as well as the upcoming Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, co-starring Timothée Chalamet and Edward Norton.
While nobody else has been publically cast in the movie yet, we can expect more additions via set images. The film is currently shooting. in Rotorua, South Head and Te Kuiti in New Zealand.
A casting call provided the following synopsis:
“A groundbreaking film in which one of the two main storylines delves into the intricate bond of two very different sisters, their familial ties are put to the ultimate test as they pursue divergent paths and missions.”
Predator: Badlands stars Elle Fanning and is directed by Dan Trachtenberg. The movie is written by Trachtenberg and Patrick Aison (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan). The movie is currently undated but in development at 20th Century Studios.
