As my introduction to the artist, this album makes it clear that D2x is certainly on his journey on that uphill battle to make it in the music industry. As a first impression, his unique stylistic blend between the hard delivery of Jay-Z and the Chicago lyricism of Kanye West makes for an interesting listen to any fan of the two aforementioned.

It’s this unique blend that urged me to listen to the full record, and I am glad I did as D2x seems to be a great artist in the making. Having only 20K monthly listeners on Spotify, the artist is still on his come up but is slowly but surely breaking out.

With some unique production on all seven tracks included in the record, complete with some striking samples from comic properties such as 2008’s Iron Man which is very on point for the message of the song which it’s used in, “Fire”. Frankly, it’s genius.

That being said, D2x’s sound and style still need some polishing, after all it is only the beginning of his career. A few times the bars don’t flow properly, but that only opens the intrigue in the music further.

I particularly loved the songs “The Theme Song”, “Fire”, and “WOW!” which featured Chris Patrick. All three were produced exceptionally well and when combined with the lyricism it makes for a striking and well-paced listen, filling their own runtimes with swiftness. In the songs themselves, the messages largely concern D2x himself, making this album personal and close to heart for the artist.

The Hunger Era makes for a quick, snappy, and lyrically diverse venture into the rap-sphere and is super solid. Whilst some of the lyrics and flows could use a little work, it’s still a great way to pass the time.
