Over the last 20 years, Steven Soderbergh has made his name as one of the biggest directors working today. From his work on the Oceans films, alongside Brad Pitt and George Clooney, to the iconic Magic Mike saga, with Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey, the director has made something for everyone. The Black Bag trailer sees a more reserved, darker, and serious version of something like Doug Liman’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith where the premise is two partners that are unaware of each other’s true profession in espionage. Similarly, Black Bag Stars Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett as two spies, Fassbender finds his character with a new assignment: investigate and possibly take out his beloved following suspicion of her betraying their government. From Director Steven Soderbergh, Black Bag is a gripping spy drama about legendary intelligence agents George Woodhouse [Fassbender] and his beloved wife Kathryn [Blanchett]. When she is suspected of betraying the nation, George faces the ultimate test – loyalty to his marriage or his country.
Starring in supporting roles are Pierce Brosnan, Regé-Jean Page, Marisa Abela, Naomie Harris, and Tom Burke. Up next for Soderbergh is Presence, a supernatural film from the perspective of an entity. That film, starring Callina Liang, Lucy Liu, Chris Sullivan, Eddy Maday, is due out only a few weeks ahead of Black Bag.
Black Bag stars Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett. The film is directed by Steven Soderbergh and written by David Koepp (Jurassic Park, Spider-Man, Inferno). Black Bag hits theatres March 14, 2025.
