‘Backrooms’ Teaser Trailer: Descent Into Madness
Prepare to explore this twisted and endless dimension in the teaser trailer for the upcoming film adaptation.
A film adaptation of the urban legend/creepypasta The Backrooms was announced in February 2023 as a joint collaboration between A24, Chernin Entertainment, Atomic Monster, and 21 Laps Entertainment. Kane Parsons, who worked on the YouTube series Backrooms, would return to direct the upcoming film adaptation. In June 2025, the first bit of casting was announced, with Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve set to star. In July of that year, we’d see the remaining cast being announced, including Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, Lukita Maxwell, and Avan Jogia.
The Backrooms is a creepypasta originating from 4chan in 2019. It describes an extradimensional expanse of empty rooms which one can access by clipping out of reality. It has since expanded into introducing “levels” and creatures that inhabit the zone.
Filming began in Vancouver, Canada on July 7th, 2025, under the working title Effigy, filming would conclude a little over a month later on August 14th, 2025. Today we have our first teaser for the upcoming film, which you can view below:

What Happens In The Backrooms Trailer?

The teaser opens with a rundown room, some old clothing, a chair, a shelf, boxes, and a brown door are present. The A24 logo fades in and the camera descends, the male narrator (Chiwetel Ejiofor) begins, “I found something.” The female narrator (Renate Reinsve) responds, “Okay.” Upon reaching the second room we see all the clutter disappear, the shelf, door and the chair (but larger) are still present.
The female narrator continues, “What did you find?” The male narrator responds, “Found a place.” In the third room, the windows are now covered, the shelf has doubled in height and the chair is halfway into the floor. The door remains normal. The male narrator continues, “It’s massive in there. And it just goes on and on and on.” In the fourth room, the shelf disappears, the windows and chair are now warped into odd shapes.
The fifth room is empty, the door, window and chair are nowhere to be seen all that remains is the ceiling light. The male narrator continues, “All these rooms. This place builds them.” The sixth room is completely closed off, there’s only the ceiling light and a foundation. The male narrator continues, “Actually, more like it remembers them.” The seventh room is even smaller, there’s only a tiny door in the corner, which expands to a full-sized door when we reach the eight room.
The male narrator finishes, “And the more times it remembers something, the less it does.” The final room resembles a barren office building, the walls are yellow and there are numerous ceiling lights. The rooms are filled with many entrances and exits. The Backrooms logo appears followed by “Only In Theaters 5.29.26.”
