‘Backrooms’ Official Trailer: Terror In The Other World

Terror strikes the crew as they try to uncover the truth in the latest Backrooms trailer.

A film adaptation of the urban legend / creepypasta The Backrooms was announced in February 2023 as a joint collaboration between A24, Chernin Entertainment, Atomic Monster, and 21 Laps Entertainment. Kane Parsons who worked on the YouTube series Backrooms, would return to direct the upcoming film adaptation. In June 2025, the first bit of casting was announced, with Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve set to star. In July of that year, we’d see the remaining cast being announced including Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, Lukita Maxwell and Avan Jogia. Here is what you need to know about the official trailer for Backrooms.

The Backrooms is a creepypasta originating from 4chan in 2019. It describes an extradimensional expanse of empty rooms which one can access by clipping out of reality. It has since expanded into introducing “levels” and creatures that inhabit the zone.

Filming began in Vancouver, Canada on July 7th, 2025 under the working title Effigy, filming would conclude a little over a month later on August 14th, 2025. On February 24th we received the teaser trailer for the upcoming film which focused on a single room and showed it get warped as we went deeper eventually stopping at the seemingly endless office space fans are accustomed to. The teaser also featured dialogue between Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve’s characters as Ejiofor describes the Backrooms.

Fast forward a little over a month, and today we have a new trailer for Backrooms which you can view below:

We also have two new posters for the film featuring Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve’s characters. These were released yesterday as part of a “trailer tomorrow” announcement (in a similar fashion to the first poster), you can view the posters below:

Backrooms’ official trailer which lasts for 2 minutes and 17 seconds, opens outside of Cap’n Clark’s Ottoman Empire. We then enter the furniture store, it isn’t open for business at the moment, and a banner reads “A24”. At this time we hear Chiwetel Ejiofor’s character say “I found something… in the store” to which Renate Reinsve’s character responds, “Okay.” We see an additional look inside the store followed by Ejiofor’s walking towards a strange crack in the wall. The crack closes and Ejiofor’s character continues, “A place. I found a place.” He presses his face against the wall and we cut to him inside the Backrooms.

In the first room, we see a pile of furniture in the middle. Ejiofor’s character begins to walk around as someone is heard through a speaker in a foreign language. He sees someone down a hallway though it appears to be a cardboard cutout, he shouts, “Hello.” Anyone there?” The screen cuts to black for a moment, “This May” appears on screen and we see a dimly lit section of the room. Ejiofor’s character continues, “Look, I know how this sounds but you gotta understand… It’s massive in there.” As he continues to explore he finds a stop sign but the word “Stop” is flipped horizontally.

We have our first look at Renate Reinsve’s character, who appears to be a therapist which Ejiofor’s character is describing the Backrooms to. She says “I’m not saying I don’t believe you.” Ejiofor’s character sighs and says, “Okay, I’m gonna come back here with proof.” We then see Reinsve’s character holding a map likely drawn by Ejiofor’s character. The visuals now change to that of an old recording, we meet Finn Bennett’s character, who’s holding a camera, Ejiofor’s character who’s now revealed as Clark asks, “Alright, you filming?” Bennett’s character responds “yeah” to which Clark replies, “Follow my lead”. Next up is Lukita Maxwell’s character, who asks, “Clark, what is this?” She’s in another room filled with furniture.

Clark responds, “That’s what I’m trying to figure out” as we see someone who appears to have phased through the ground with only the top half of their body visible. The camera then turns to a lit Christmas tree. Clark continues, “I’ve been here every night since I’ve found the place, and I’ve still barely scratched the surface.” He’s seen tying a rope to Bennett’s character. Clark tells Bennett’s character, “Alright, just take it slow,” and he’s sent down to a lower area that can only be accessed by a slope. The area appears abandoned and once he’s down there something frightens him and he shouts, “Oh my god. Pull me up, pull me up, Pull me up!”

The screen fades to black again this time saying, “A Film By Kane Parsons.” Reinsve’s character is watching TV where a woman opens a window. Clark says, “All these rooms… this place builds them” a door is opened, revealing a new part of the room. Clark is then seen opening what appears to be a tunnel, a backpack is inside. In another scene, a hallway is blocked by chairs and Clark continues, “It’s like a maze… it just goes on and on.” In camera footage, someone is running down a hallway. Reinsve’s character is seen in her room while Clark says, “sometimes I’m scared I’ll get lost!” Reinsve’s character then goes to the furniture shouting, “Clark! Can you hear me?”

Clark finds a camera, and someone is watching on the other end. The footage is dated June 29th, 1990 around 11:30 PM. Reinsve’s character asks, “What is this?” We cut to three people in hazmat suits, two in yellow and one person wearing green who’s holding a fire extinguisher, we see a tropical background on one of the walls. The next scene shows Clark seemingly trapped in the Backrooms, unable to find his way out. Someone is screaming in the camera footage, running towards another room. Reinsve’s character goes to the basement where the shape of a door is made on the wall using tape, a map of the Backrooms is seen on a board to the left of her. She walks towards the door and enters the Backrooms.

Clark says, “It’s beautiful. Am I right?” Reinsve’s character walks down the first hallway, she says “Hello?” We abruptly cut to a narrow hallway, Reinsve’s character appears dirty and is running away from something. The Backrooms logo appears followed by camera footage of someone writing on the wall of a pool area. Finally the release date of May 29th, 2026 is shown followed by “Get Tickets Now.” The words “Written by Will Soodik. Based On The Series By Kane Parsons” closes out the trailer.
