Alien: Earth Runtime vs Alien Movies

While it’s hard to compare a show and movies with runtimes, what is curious is that Alien: Earth, just based on the first 3 episodes, is already longer than any Alien movie.
- Alien: 117 Minutes (1h 57m)
- Aliens: 137 Minutes (2h 17m)
- Alien 3: 114 Minutes (1h 54m)
- Alien: Resurrection: 109 Minutes (1h 49m)
- Alien: Prometheus: 124 Minutes (2h 4m)
- Alien: Covenant: 122 Minutes (2h 2m)
- Alien: Romulus: 119 Minutes (1h 59m)
- Alien: Earth (3 Episodes): 172 Minutes (3h 12m)
Alien: Earth, with the first two episodes alone, would be 118 minutes, which is longer than the original Alien. With an 8-episode count, it’s clear Alien: Earth will be much longer than any other Alien media to date.
If the season keeps the same average runtime as the first 3 episodes (57.3 minutes), then it would have around 459 minutes total (7h 39 m), which would be more than the original trilogy combined.
What to Know About Alien: Earth

Alien: Earth is a prequel to the original Alien (1979). Alien is set in 2122 and Alien: Earth is set in 2120, so it takes place two years prior to the film.
You likely will not have had to seen any Alien films to enjoy the show but it’s possible that watching it may help with the lore and world the show utilizes.
Creator Noah Hawley also spoke about how the prequels that Ridley Scott made (Prometheus and Covenant) will not factor into the story of Alien: Earth, so it will be a standalone project in that regard, even if it fits the universe.
